For the quietest rooms stay in the Uxmal building. I stayed in room # 738 in Uxmal, it is a JS OF, and it was great. You are away from the noise of the pool and the view was great. Also, the JS OV on the north side of the Tulum building are quiet. Our friends stayed in one of them and they had a decent view, though you had to lean over the balcony a bit. My final two cents is never stay in one of their swim up rooms, unless you don't value your privacy and you want to hear people getting bombed at the swim up bar all day. I love getting lit as much as the next guy, but those are a waste of money IMHO.

I'm finding myself leaning towards the rooms 236-239, 337, or 338 (omitting 336 and 339 for their somewhat ineffective pergola type overhang).

These are fairly close (perhaps too close) to the pool, but we're going in November so I am hoping that the pool won't be as busy as it would be otherwise. I like the way this block is set so that it's more or less a direct view down to the ocean.

In the quiter area between the Tulum an Uxmal blocks, I like the looks of those end of block RJ suites closest to the beach. I think that 286 and 386 are the best of the six, but again don't like that 386 has the pergola and, unfortunately, 286 appears to have double beds. On the other side, I think that 734 is the creme of the crop, 834 a close second because of its pergola, but am a little concerned with these that the Ocean Front block sticks out too far in front of them. The attached picture looks like it may have been taken from 734.

Hopefully I can give a little insight as we are cruise-lovers too...and were just at the RPDC for our first AI experience in March. We really loved the RPDC and had a great time! We would definitely go back. Did it change our cruise-lovin'? NO way! It just made us want to take one of EACH vacation every year! Ours was a Funjet vacation which we booked through Traveloni.com so our transportation to the resort was included through Lomas Travel. Lomas has a booth at the hotel so we had them arrange our all-day tour to Chichen-itza and it turned out to be a great day for $77 each.
We had a Jr. Suite oceanview (Room 252)and loved having the free internet, robes/slippers and on-line check-in. Our room was right above the hot tubs so sometimes it was a bit noisy but with the doors closed, we really didn't hear much. You would be paying for the view so you would hate to hide in a room in the back of any of the buildings. Plus when we checked in on-line we only had our choice of 2 rooms...so that was a bummer.(We wanted the Coba building only..non-smoking).
Our daughter has been to Moon Palace...loved it...but was in awe when she saw our pictures of the RPDC. Her room was nothing like what we had there...plus the great location and awesome beach!
Hope this helps...let me know if you have any questions.

bigwally,

I'm sure you'd be happy in any of the rooms you mentioned, we were in 339 last October and would not have any problem being in that room again. It was on the end of that small angled block of rooms so that may help eliminate some noise. It had a king bed, but you are correct the balcony is somewhat smaller than 338 next door. I didn't have a problem with it though. We never noticed any noise from the pool either. Here are a couple of views from our room.

Thanks for those pics. You didn't find the corner of the balcony for room 348 (the column on the right had side of your picture) intruding too badly on your ocean view?

Given the Pergola over that room's deck, my wife likes 337 better. But at the end of the day we'll probably take what we can snag.

In looking more into these rooms, I found that the odd rooms are king bedded and the even ones are doubles. Since a king on an upper floor is what we want, that limits us - to 337, 339, 237, or 239.

Edit: Hey, I see you're going to be at the Royal six days before us. Does that mean you'll be there when we are (and in our room! LOL!)?

Since we are only there from Oct. 25th to the 29th, I think I'll just miss you. We didn't find the column bothersome at all. I made list of rooms I liked, but when I used the online check in most of those rooms weren't available. I tried the next day several times as well, nothing better than 339 opened up. Turned out 339 was great, close to everything really. Don't stress too much over which room to book, we really didn't spend that much daylight time in the room anyway, only when we'd wake up was the ocean view really worth it. Since your gonna be there right after we are, I'll try to leave some tequila for you. If you have any more questions on the Royal I'll try to help or someone here will know the answer. My trip report from Oct. is on here if you search it.

Anyone have any noise issues with staying in any of the rooms near the pool? Our friends went last year and stayed in 394 and said it was pretty quiet. Will be checking in online tomorrow night at midnight.

We were in 153 right by the pool, outside the hot tub and the noise never bothered us. The rooms were very quiet with the patio doors shut and it was way too hot in April to leave them open. At night it was beautiful, the way they lit up the pool. I wouldn't worry at all about the noise.

Excellent, thank you very much for the update. We stayed at the Dreams resort last year in Puerta Vallarta and the rooms next to the pools and bars were far from sound proof. My wife and I prefer to stay near the action so thank you for the clarification.

Palace Resorts

I've stayed at several Palace Resorts and have gotten great prices by going through timeshare owners rather than Palace. There are several sites to hook up with owners who will rent their week for just a little over their cost. Header to Playacar Palace myself tomorrow!
