I hesitated to even make the initial post, worried that people would immediately feel free to insert all sorts of snarky and inappropriate comments. But I'd just heard the news and it was weighing heavily and I thought I'd share with other peeps who might want to know.
I guess I should have known better.

First of all, he is a man. He has children, grand kids, maybe great grandchilden. I am not sure if he is currently married, but if he is he has a wife.
Like or dislike his politics, you have to hope the best for him. His 2 brothers were murdered in cold blood yet he still stood in the national spotlight for decades. You may not agree with him, but you have to admire him despite his well known flaws. Once again, best of luck Teddy

If you hadn't, I would have. My heart is breaking today. Ted Kennedy has been one of my political heroes since I first became politically aware during the 1980 presidential race. I understand that many on this board disagree with his politics, that's okay and understandable. I would make the observation that Sen. Kennedy is one of the most well liked and respected members within the Senate. He is gifted with the unique and laudable quality of fighting like a raging lion for those causes about which his is passionate, yet without letting his politics become personal. Like his politics or not, no one can deny that he has done more for the average working men and women of this country than any other Senator in recent history. My thoughts are with him. He has a reputation as a fighter, but this will certainly be the fight of his life. I wish him and his family all the best. |

My dad, a staunchly conservative John Birch republican till his death considered him a "brilliant legislator". I like to remember my dad this way, giving credit due to someone giving his entire adult life to serving the U.S. Constitution AND the Bill of Rights.
