We've purchased 2 on previous trips. We also purchased 2 inexpensive Mexican blankets and wrapped them in the blankets, our towels and clothing and placed them in the middle of our backpacks and they came home in the same condition as purchased.

One tip, if you do purchase one, buy a very low voltage bulb, for the shell is very thin and could overheat easily.

Jez,

What kind of varnish did you use? I need to spiff up my oldest one, I have it outside all summer and it's showing a bit of wear.

You can also boil water in a paper cup with an open flame. the water keeps the paper from burning, run out of water, and the cup goes up in flames. I would imagine it's the same thing "cooking" with a gourd.

Five years since they posted
They do have a website, so perhaps you could check there.
The website address is in one of his posts.
