Gorgeous bird that she is, this babe has no hope of winning: at this very moment the multi-billion dollar health&fitness/plastic surgery industries are busy getting their bribes ready just in case.
Nothing personal, they'd say, business-wise it makes finacial sense, they'd say. |

I have no doubt that on the off chance she does win, Jenny Craig and Valerie will be back stage waiting to congratulate her. |

Two weeks ago I was at a wedding shower and my cousin asked me to keep an eye on her 2-year old while she cleaned up. She is really fast! She was running around outside and the only thing that helped me keep up with her was that she fell once in awhile. I could gain on her while she was getting up. Finally I decided to just hold her hand. That didn't go over very well! She kept screaming "Do't hole my hand, do't hole my hand!"I would drop a few if I had to take care of her every day! |

You are so right, sadly. I'd like to see more models look like her then what they actually are like. If I had to choose a body image for my daughter to strive for, her's is the one I'd pick. She's alot healthier then most of the top models who can't gain an ounce or it shows.

Certainly people who are a little overweight yet still fit and eat a healthy diet and are not in the obese category should not be ashamed or made to feel badly about their weight and looks. I realize this is a sticky subject, but she looks more than just a few pounds overweight (okay at her height of 5'10", and 176 pounds, I looked it up and 173 is the max weight for a large frame, if she is even large framed).
Most people this woman's size would want to lose some weight, true? It might not be fair or PC to call her body 'less than ideal' but what would her doctor say she should do, remain at her current size, or maybe lose some pounds? We all know how hard it is to lose especially once you get past 30, and she is only 17....she is definitely over what most health professionals would call her individual ideal weight. I just think it portrays equally as dangerous a role model figure to aspire towards, as having super thin contenstants is- in some ways even worse, since overweight and obesity are such huge problems in the West today, and more common in young girls and boys than anorexia is. Even the title in the link story-" Quote:
'Healthier' ideals? Emotionally healthier maybe, sure, great - but physically healthy, no.We should all love our bodies regardless, sure, and be better socialized to not obsess negatively about our looks and our weight, that's great. I try really hard not to focus on my extra pounds and let it get me down. But shouldn't there also be a focus on better health too? I am always a little uncomfortable about the 'big is beautiful' movement- just because something is the norm now in our society, doesn't mean it's what we should be glorifying. ![]() |
