Rain rain rain?
Ugh...heading to PDC for the first time next week and they are forecasting rain ALL week on the couple of weather channels that I've looked at. Is this unusual? I didn't think the beginning of May was supposed to be THAT wet. I was hoping for sunny skies and hot temps (isn't that what we all hope for with vacay tho?
) Does the rain usually stick around long in PDC?

We have gone in May the last three years and the weather was great even though the forecast said rain everyday so I wouldn't worry. The first year we went there was no rain, the second year one full day of rain, and the same last year. 2 0f those years were over a 12 day stay and one year a 7 day stay. Enjoy your vacation!

I grew up in Minnesota. There, if the forecast called for a 20% chance of rain, it meant that there was a possibility that it would rain.
Here, if the forecast calls for a 20% chance of rain, it means that it will very likely not rain. |

We've done three trips to Playa in late April/early May and found that the weather forecast means next to nothing. You might or might not get a rainy day. If it does rain, it often lasts a few minutes and then the sun comes out for the rest of the day.
It is usually a lot more humid in May than in the winter months |

Rain, etc
From Chaucer's Canterbury Tales:
"Whan that Aprille with its shoures sueete, The droughte of Marche hath perced to the roote, And bathed every vigne in swich liqueur, Of which virtue engendered is the fleur..." Wonderful reading - I wish I still had copy of it in its original form, but it's been long lost after moving to Mexico. It may not as "cute" as the little "April showers bring May flowers" ditty, but it's not supposed to be "cute" - it's quite beautiful, actually, although as a teen I didn't have the faintest inkling I would ever think so in years to come. How things do change. Pardon my spelling of the original Middle English words - it's been a long time since I read it (and heard it read to me in the assumed original pronunciation) in 11th grade English class. |

Starting to stress over weather forecasts
Please dont judge me for asking this question....I just need sunshine!
I arrive on Saturday for 2 weeks and I keep seeing reports of rain most days and I wonder what to expect….I know people ask this all the time and people get fed up with answering this all the time, however in the uk its been dark, miserable and raining. I have been looking forward to this special trip for ages and I have never left Europe before!! Cheers! |

It always says it's going to rain there. We used to worry about that too, but the rain moves so fast that even if it does rain it likely won't last long.
Try not to stress about it, you're going to have a great time. |

Thanks for the response. It looks to be raining now (webcam). From what you can tell do you think the next 2 weeks will just be brief showers or is there thoughts of downpours? |

There hasn't been any measurable precipitation yet this month according to the weather channel.
Monthly Weather Forecast for Playa Del Carmen, Mexico - weather.com And, May isn't rainy month, on average. Meoweather | Playa del Carmen weather history. Playa del Carmen average weather by month. Weather history for Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico I've only experienced a few quick downpours during my trips. Our rainiest trip was in Oct, and we actually loved the rain. But it's a personal preference. It's a great time to grab some food or go to PG's and watch the rain, or take a nap in the room, or take care of a MEGA run, etc. |
