Wow Stewart, you mean to tell me that you are one of these husbands that actually helps around the house?? If so, I appologize to Kelli for assuming and congratulate her on a job well done in training (or maybe it was your mom!!) Can I send my hubby your way for some lessons? He is the one who wanted the stainless and has NO clue how "I" clean it!!

Actually, we have a housekeeper.

Thanks for the further comments guys. Sol - I like the look of the cabinet depth fridge, but it TICKS me off that we pay more for less capacity!!!

Tmc - I like the Wolf, but prefer their Sub-Zero products... I compared the wolf to the thermador and it was the star shaped burners that won me over...

I had a built in fridge when we built our house, it had cupboards on top of it as I am fairly tall so have cupboards right to the ceiling in my home. At the time (1992) we bought the biggest side/side fridge that they made. When it quit on me last year and I went to replace it I had a terrible time finding one short enough to fit. I had to remove my cupboards so I could put my fridge in. We are still waiting to get a carpenter in to shorten them for me. So in imho maybe not built in unless you are not planning on living there for years and years. Thus when it becomes a problem, it is someone elses!!

Yeah...that is another problem that you have to shell out some bucks for the looks. Something that I do like about the built-ins is that no junk can go on top of the fridge because of the cabinets. Dave is notorious for putting crap on top of the fridge that absolutely does not belong there. I hate stuff on top of the fridge...makes me crazy.

And there is a good reason why I should avoid built in. I am the guy in our house that puts stuff on top of the fridge. If I arrange them right, I can get about 20 2-liter bottles of soda up there!

My fridge is covered with all the stuff that was in the cupboard we removed!!
Kelli is a lucky lady to have a housekeeper!! In that case, go stainless, it looks awesome when clean!!
Good luck to you with all your plans! You'll have to post pics when it is done.

Maybe it is just our bad luck but our Sub-Zero refrigerator is the worst appliance we have ever owned. The ice maker portion breaks all the time and it costs a small fortune for repairs. I never had a problem with any refrigerator until we got the "best" one. You might want to look at some alternatives. Our Jenn-Aire, on the other hand, is amazing and we have never had an issue with it. We chose Viking over Thermador but it had more to do with the aesthetics than anything else. One thing I would recommend if you have not already thought of it is a warming oven. What a difference between your food being left in a warming oven or having to be microwaved. We originally went with panelled applinaces that matched the kitchen but we have a more eclectic mix now of stainless steel and paneled. Good luck!

Thanks for the input!

We are not going to need a warming oven, as we are getting a double wall oven that goes down to 100 degrees.

Mmm...I'd still go with the drawer. They hardly take any space and are pretty cheap. I have both ovens and the warming drawer going frequently, but cooking is one of my hobbies.

Now, I really wish I had installed two dishwashers...one for pots the other for dishes.

I agree, we also have the double wall oven but the warming drawer is invaluable if you are planning a big meal like Thanksgiving or a party since you need all the space you can get. It may not be right for everybody but I would recommend it if you have the space since it is not an expensive item.

Am I the only freaky person getting turned on by all this discussion and those kitchen-appliance-porn links?

Kathy is notorious for thinking she is in charge of where I can put stuff

Okay, that's two for the warming drawer...

Space is not really a problem, as the house is over 5000 sq feet and the kitchen is large and open. We're having our cabinets custom built on site, so accommodating all the equipment should not be a problem... Hmmm...
