Economy Be Damned - Vacations ARE a Necessity!

THIS article says so!

Quote:
"Vacations are usually the first thing to go when people feel job or economic pressure," says Joe Robinson, a trainer in work-life balance and author of "Work to Live." He continues, "We're programmed to believe that free time is worthless, a frill to shove aside, but vacations are as important as watching your cholesterol or getting exercise."

Skipping a vacation can also be bad for your employer.

Milo and Thuy Sindell, founders of Hit the Ground Running and authors of "Job Spa," say, "You are not helpful to the company and your coworkers when you are not operating at full capacity. Vacations help you to get rejuvenated to come back to work at full capacity."

Kathy and I are taking vacations next week.

She is going to visit family and friends in the midwest.

I am going to powerwash and paint the deck and powerwash one side of the house (we are going to paint the house this summer also). Gotta start getting everything all spiffy.

I love vacation

Our only vacation is the one we take in Playa. Gotta recharge the batteries. Renting an apartment at Mom's for a month....figure staying longer will save us money. Won't be spending much time at the beach clubs though.....getting too spendy. Of course that doesn't include Bad Boys thursday and saturday afternons.

Susie- I could have told you this years ago! We always cut out other things before our vacations- actually we're just cheap, in general

Oh, I totally agree with this article. I'd sell my car before I gave up my vacation! In fact, I'd love to sell my car and get a small little junker so I can have more money for vacation! New clothes? Nope. New shoes? No, thanks. Groceries? maybe just raman noodles...I need to go on vacation!!

We just got back from PDC in Sunday and are already planning on going again in November. I can cut back on plenty of stuff to pull it off without having to charge it.

Economy be damned...I need vacation!

My boss was talking to me the other day - she knows about my early retirement plans. Anyway she says - you know, you don't golf, you don't have a boat, you don't have horses - the only thing I have ever seen you buy for yourself is your iPhone - may as well buy another one.

I do have hobbies though, one is getting ready for to leave the work-a-day world and the other is investing. I guess that would seem odd to some people, so I mostly keep it to myself and then that poor woman I am married to has to listen to it also - but she is pretty supportive as long as we get to go to Mexico for a couple of weeks every couple of years or so.

I too will sacrifice a lot before I give up vacations. OR our plans to retire young, for that matter.

Once you have been bitten by the travel bug, it's hard to stop.

My husband on the other hand, likes his beach trips once a year but his toys are important to him too. I will just go without him sometimes.... separate bank accounts can be a good thing.

We, too, feel the NEED to recharge....however, this last weekend we chose to stay close to home and be tourists in our own city! We had a GREAT time and saved a HECK of a lot of money!

However, no craziness here....we are STILL off to Akumal and Playa for 16 days in July.......(cut down on the weekend trips...cash in on the longer trips)!

I absolutely agree that vacations are a much needed break! I WILL NOT give up mine even though my company is now facing furloughs and I will be facing a paycut soon! I will do some creative financial juggling and hoping the 3 dogs get jobs realllllllllllllll soon!
