The Reef Coco Beach
Will be first guests at the Reef Coco in November. Traveling with children aged 8 and 12. It boasts location on North beach walking distance to Playa. North beach is also listed as topless/nude etc. Should I be staying here with children?
Cheers! |

The Reef
IMHO: in general, parents are way more freaked by topless than kids. And the women going topless are NOT artificially augmented porno queens--they are ordinary sun-lovers, in general very low key.
You may encounter a wee bit of snubbing when long-time Playa visitors hear where you're staying. Coco Beach was a popular public beach, and now it's occupied by a hotel (with guest-only lounges, no doubt). But growth happens, the hotel is built, and we still love Playa. Enjoy yourselves; you will be visiting a beautiful coast, seeing a wonderful city and meeting wonderful people. No sarcasm intended--we were all first time visitors once, and the fact that we loved it here fuels the boom. 8) |

Thank you for reply
You are probably very right. Kids are very accepting. I just want a nice family vacation but I am not a prude....at least I don't think I am?! Geesh! From some reports it almost sounded like I landed on a nude beach. I think my two boys aged 8 and 12 would have finally been left speechless.
I will write a trip report when I get back. I have read lots of other trip reports and have found them very helpful (more so than the agent's reports). I received a lot of value reading them, I will give one back. I am sorry about Coco beach. I have read on another site that it was a favourite local spot. I can imagine the loss. I also live in a heavily touristed area and I can relate to the mixed feelings on tourists and development. I am not looking forward to wearing the "evil marked bracelet of the beach destroyers". I will wear a bag over my head to compensate. I am very concerned however, on the state of development of the resort. I have heard everything from pile of concrete and down. I hope it is ready in time. I thought that we would maybe have some mild upsets with new staff training but I was not contemplating all out construction while vacationing like with another persons "new AI" report. Regardless I shall look forward to this trip.....right?! Cheers eh! |

We will be staying at the Reef Coco Beach as well ... looks like late November. I was hoping to see some actual photo's of the hotel and the current state of progress.
Sorry to hear about the loss of this Beach to development ... I can only imagine the feelings Any links to actual photo's would be greatly appreciated. Jim |

Reef Coco Beach
Our family (3 kids, the hubby and I) is visiting Playa and staying at the new Reef Coco beach. If anyone gets down there before they open in November, can you give us an update on their progress? And of course, anyone going on November, please give us an update - we will be there in mid-December right before Christmas. I have never been to an AI and since this one is new I am a bit curious as to what to expect. I thought it would be easiest and fun for the kids. I hear Coco beach is much beloved and beautiful. I can't seem to find a map of the area though - Coco is North? Far from its sister, the Reef Playacar?

Just booked Reef Cocoa Beach Dec 7-21, 2003
Hi all,
I'm a Travel Agent on Vancouver Island and I just got off the phone with Sunquest putting my Brother and his Girlfriend on a waitlist for the Reef Cocoa Beach Dec 7-21, 2003. Sunquest is the only Canadian Tour operator offering this resort and the Res Agent at Sunquest said that the official opening date is October 31, 2003. The reason for the wait list for departures out of Vancouver between Nov 27 to Dec 10 is the fantastic price. The agent had attended a presentation put on by the Reef Management and said that the resort will be lovely. Monika |

Specials? We are planning a May '04 trip and I am keeping Reef Coco Beach as an option. I am really hoping to hear positive reviews, as I like the area. How far is it from Playa -walkable? How long do resorts typically offer "grand opening" specials? Who is offering packages from USA? I am surprised the opening of a new resort it is so low key. It is actually hard to find information regarding RCB. You would think they would be hitting people over the head with mega-marketing. Is this typical?

Reef Coco Beach
We also have a res the 1st week of Nov. Got a great deal through Suntrips. Have a friend at work going down mid October. Will report on Coco Beach when she gets back. Interclub Resorts says the opening is on schedule.
Anyone else going to be there Nov. 3rd thru the 10th? 8) |

I have emailed the hotel and the Interclub resorts office. They say they will be open and ready. Finally received an answer to my question on ocean view rooms. They have none. Either pool view, or partial ocean view. Quite the contrary to what their website says.
Oh well, how much time do you spend in your room anyway. Event: Mexico Scheduled For 11/3/2003 10:00 AM 1 month 1 day 22 hours 22 minutes 43 seconds or 5 weekends or 33 days or 790 hours (527 waking hours) or 47,422 minutes or 2,845,362 seconds But who's counting. 8) |

35 more sleeps
Can't wait to go. We are booked Nov 7th for 2 weeks. So, you say there are no ocean view rooms? Your right, the Reef CocoBeach website says that they are all ocean view. The hotel emailed me back and told me they are right next to the Shangri-La-Caribe. Search this out and you will find pictures of the beach. 8) 8) 8)

Just booked the first week of December. Hopefully everything is up and running by then. Love the area and this time we'll be within walking distance of PDC. Pics of the resort would be great from those of you travelling in November. 8) [/b]
