Happy Canada Day to all. Just to set the record straight, Canada Day is always July 1st. In some areas, such as Saskatchewan apparently, they move the day off. Here in BC the stat holiday was / is today Tuesday. Some folks, such as myself, took the Monday off and made it a 4 day weekend.

no, of course not (how do you 'move' July 1? ). It's just that that we all signed the paper for permission from the gov't to take yesterday in lieu.
Many people in my office took both days and had a 4 day weekend too. Of course today is the actual Canada Day, and we are going to go watch the fireworks later.

Me thinks you misunderstood my comment. I meant that the day off work appeared to be switched in Sask. Anyway, love those fireworks and it is great to see us showing our national pride no matter what day we take off work.

You have to remember who you're dealing with here, Marty. These are the same folks that can't handle the concept of Daylight Savings time. I think Saskatchewan and a couple of tiny villages in Papua New Guinea are the only places on the planet that haven't signed on to that notion.

It's silly! Why do we need it? Either way you lose an hour of daylight at one end, right? WTF does it matter if I am driving to work in the dark in the morning, or coming home in the dark at night? I could never understand that.

And no fussin' about, changing your clocks and watches, no screwups....it's quite freeing, actually. Maybe it's the rest of you people that are the dummies...hmmm?

Marty- it was the whole province who took Monday in lieu, it was just my company, I didn't mean to imply that everyone did that.

Actually, it's a well known fact that Saskatchewan is out of step because they can't get the roosters to adjust. Just sayin'....

And shouldn't you be working, Ris? Or do you have the day off in lieu of Christmas?

I have the day off in lieu of Samhain today, actually.

Hey, good for your kids, Melissa. They must have loved that! What, no pictures?

I was in Oshawa the other day during Canada day. The one thing I noticed between the US and when you guys have a holiday. Is that nothing is open, not a store maybe a bar or two but that's about it. In the states its like its business as usual.

As much as I believe in capitalism I think that we in the states could go back to the old ways of closing most retail stores.
