Lucy's in Akumal
In Playa- I like Playa Maya and Dr. Taco used to be good (don't know if they are the same now that he's re-opened). I don't like the white sauce (just mayo, I think) on the tacos at Oasis, and more recently PG's so they're not my favorite, but the fried fish and shrimp itself is awesome

I prefer a sweet/sour tamarind based sauce. Oh, and by the way, the shrimp tacos by the bus station in the morning are pretty darned good, but usually not particularly hot (temperature). |

I think the key to any of all these great places and more is to make sure you get shrimp and or fish that is fried to order. This way the little taco is hot and the batter is still CRUNCHY...MMMMMMM.
We tried La Floresta and we got limp shrimp that had been cooked way ahead of time...I guess in anticipation of a rush. No one likes a limp shrimp, right? Same thing at Taco Paco (Xpu Ha Pemex), so now we always specify cooked to order. Problem solved. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I still really like the shrimp tacos at Pinche Gringos...they use an almost tempura-like batter and, of course, I love the tamarind salsa. They ALSO make a very good chicken sandwich fried with the same batter, with chipotle salsa. I don't order it (too caloric for my fat butt), but I DO always take just one delicious bite off my BF, who never has to worry about his weight. What a jerk he is.

just before you get to the arch, there is a convenience store on the left (north side of road), Lucy's is just behind that. There is also a small canopied market area on that side. Lucy's is not the Luncheria next to the Super Chomak on the south side of the road...... but the luncheria is good econo eats too

Teach Russ to make them and you won't have to leave home
![]() . Gringo Dave's in PA used to have excellent shrimp tacos, but he is gone from what I have heard. Original (i.e., first) place to have shrimp tacos in Playa was/is La Floresta. Also there is a new "stand" in Puerto Morelos (north on Main Street on west side) that has great shrimp tacos.
