No, seriously- I like Smithwicks- I think they have some very good beers. My husband homebrews and I always love the stuff he makes- available now are a porter, oatmeal stout, barleywine, strong brown ale, and pale ale. Yeah- he brews alot I'm also fond of many of the beers at various New England brew pubs- we have a good one out here- I don't like their standard beers- but really love all of their special brews (really hop-y lager, imperial stout, coffee porter, etc...) I'm a beer fan Too bad I don't drink much of it anymore......tooooo many calories

coffee
oh coffee!! let's make it happen, do not think starbucks is the best thing around, they have no fair trade and exploited farmers in latin America and Africa.
When i was in Playa coffee was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Is anything good this days in Playa for coffee, like good italian? you know like in San Francisco o Puerto Vallarta. Thanks. Ale |

tourist drop in childcare and babysitters
You asked about what businesses were needed and everyone here is talking more or less about food and restaurants. A business that doesn't involve the food industry which I think is needed in Playa is a tourist drop-in daycare center or babysitter agency. Countless times I have traveled with people who have children and if they are staying in the city at a rental, there are no options for babysitters. The AI's have inhouse babysitters and Kids Clubs, who are employees of the hotel and those people work exclusively for the hotel's guests. Many families stay in villas, condos and with friends who live in Playa, and to get a 3 hour break from their children is next to impossible. Wouldn't something like a drop in center that was open all day and into the evening hours be a great way for adults to have a break during their 7 day stay? If this exists already, I'm unaware of it. Or at the last resort a formal babysitter agency where tourists would know that the sitters have been checked out and have cpr skills and other childcare skills.

An excellent new bookstore or an excellent new&used bookstore with a really good selection of English books, Spanish books & coffee table books (more than the Basic Hotel, but they have a good start). Independent preferably but hey, B&N --Playa could be you...
A small to medium (100 people) performance place downtown w/a small stage, not outside (got one, let me know) for readings, small ensembles, performances, etc. |
