what is missing in playa ?
Hello all.
As some of you may know already, me and my family are planning on moving to Playa in a near future and i am already gathering ideas for a business and i was thinking that it will be good to hear from locals or folks that go there all the time. Is there something missing in Playa?, what kind of business Playa needs? Let's talk. maybe in a close future you may find that what Playa was lacking is know there thanks to you feedback and ideas. Peace Ale |

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the question has been asked before, you are not the first who wants to pick our collective brain to open a business.
Take a deep read at this thread, it may help you: http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...xperience.html I recommend doing a scouting trip (a month or less) before really doing the moving, seems like a great idea to live in paradise. But having to work in an idyllic place is not the same, most of the guys who live in Playa never see the beach, except for those whose job is beach or sea related. Planning a vacation to the area is a hard job. Finding a job or creating one that will provide food for your family is even tougher if you don't really know the area and needs. Even if you are for example a great scuba instructor, you will find that things are far from ideal when you are in charge of the operation. Anyway, good luck. ![]() |

Oh yeah... Playa also needs a country western bar and probably a Tex-Mex restaurant. Jimmy |

somewhere to hang out in the afternoons, especially in the winter when there's no beach after 4 pm. have drinks, coffee, good music, play backgammon or other, play area for kids (preferably with someone who entertains them)..... but I'm a local so it doesn't count

A good bookstore! There might be one that I'm not aware of (locals will know more), but I haven't seen one in the usual places we seem to spend our time in pdc (from 5th to 30th). I'd love to be able to buy my beach read (in English) while in Playa and not having to schlep it all the way from Europe. I know there is a place at 5th that does sell some used paper backs (some in English) but the selection is very, very limited.

one of the complaints that I get when people come is the lack of "good authentic mexican food".... there is the tex mex, there is the McDonalds, but not the food that you get in Tobasco, Chiapas or inland..... the REAL MEXICO. It seems that there are so many of us that want to make this country that we are visitors of, like the good ol USA, of which I am proud. PDC is a tourist place, and many of the tourists like to see the Mexico that they came to visit......"Flavor of Mexico" would be good.
I do agree with the next poster who said to investigate. It is hard to do business here... to go by all the rules and to find something that would support all of your family. Most people who do come here on vacation come and see the beauty, buy on whims, and then.... how do I get out? It is a wonderful place to live full time, but at times, one wonders why, how.... it is not as cheap as it used to be, and the laws are not built around the owners but protect the workers. Lots to look into before you take the plunge. Good luck and best wishes to your new adventure. |
