I myself like Skype . all you need is a headset or skype phone , laptop or main home computer . When traveling anywhere & can pick up a signal ( in most & many places ) you can call anywhere you want & people can call you , also pick up any messages . I pay less than $60.00 USD a year for skype . That is a mega savings ! I use it for my main home telephone . I have the Skypin & Skype out features . Anyone who prefers not to pay for Skype features , can download Skype & make skype to skype calls to people that download & can talk to anyone in the world for free . All you need is your headset with microphone or skype phone . This cost less than text messaging . It is like instant messaging , but you can talk to them.

I have Skype downloaded too but since there's not computer at home to call to I would have to pay a fee for calling a phone. I do use it however to call other people in the States.

We bought international phone cards from Sprint. CVS had a special buy one get one free, for 10.00 we have about 1 1/2 hrs. of talk time for the week.

According to the information Sprint publishes on the internet one Sprint/CVS $10 card gets you just under 8.5 minutes talk time from Mexico to the US. ( $1.18 per minute) And that is only if you find a private phone that does not block the access number. My home phone service in Mexico is from Telmex, and in our case the access numbers are blocked. If you find this is the case you can use a public phone were you pay the $1.25 access fee and your talk time is down to 7.5 minutes (if you only make one call and use all 7.5 minutes). I would get almost that same amount of time by using my US cell phone to call the US from Mexico. And while using a US cell phone to call home is the most expensive option I could think of, it is a lot more convenient than entering all of those numbers (on your card) into a phone.

An MCI card allows calls to the US from Mexico for only 59c per minute with no access fee.

I am reading more about Magic Jack . Can you get a personal phone number ? How do you find a persons Magic Jack phone listing ? Does this work the same as it does to find someone who has skype & can locate in the directory ?
