searching from main page
one suggestion that _might_ help guide people to use a search feature is to have a search feature as part of the title bar. check out forums.gentoo.org for their search feature implemented. perhaps they'll share their modifications to the phpbb with ya
. just a heads up. originally it used or for the words entered on the serach, but that didn't ever produce many usefull results. searching for "taxi prices playacar" w/o the quotes should only give the results that contain those words. if someone wants to be more general in their searches, that's what the search page is foryep, they still get lots of dupe questions and such, but that's probably b/c the general search engine could be more google like in nature. or have a better rating system for the results it finds. |

I've actually included that mod on the forum on the new server!
![]() I agree that's handy. I'm also installing a different type of site-wide search that will parse EVERYTHING including all forum content on a nightly basis so you can search from any page and get results from anywhere on the domain. I've also, uh, relaxed a bit about searching. Yes, it's the right thing to do, but I'm trying not to be such a snobby geek expecting people to be into this stuff as much as I am, so instead of just sending people to search right away, I'm trying to answer in general, then recommend a search. Anna is proud.
