is Coco Bongo opening in Playa del Carmen?
Sorry if this is at all a touchy subject but I am almost dying of curiousity and the Search function isn't providing me with much luck...feel free to point me in the right direction if there is a thread somewhere about this.
What is this I hear about a Coco Bongo opening in Playa Del Carmen? Why haven't I heard anything about it until now? Where abouts is it going to be? Info info info!! Ps, has Classico closed down already??? |

![]() I prefer the Hard Rock Cafe in Playa compared to the Coco Bongo in Playa. But then again I could change my mind if either of them actually does get built. |

In Cancun, it's a HUGE show bar, where your entry fee includes all your drinks all night.
They do put on a great show in Cancun, but I will never set foot in it again. It was packed SOLID with people (I kept worrying about what would happen in a fire), getting a waiter to bring a drink was near impossible, and the whole atmosphere was very rude with drunk, pushy guests (guess they got there early to get their drinks), waiters who totally ignored us, and staff jaded by nights and nights of the same routine. |

I on the other hand absolutely love the place and would recommend it thoroughly
![]() We've been lucky enough to have nothing but positive experiences of the place every time we've been. I guess it depends what you look for in a night out, but the show alone is nothing short of spectacular, it's like nothing we'd ever seen before the first time we went. |

but the $40 cover charge on top of finding it nearly impossible to get a drink from a waiter or making one's way to the bar kinda killed it for me. I had one warm beer while there with little or no chance of getting another. It was dangerously crowded and they had a mulit-level floor...like yeah...have one foot drops in a dark club. Quote:

We seriously have never had a problem getting drinks the only annoying thing we did find is sometimes they will be funny if one of you goes to the bar for the rest of you and they say you can only get one drink at a time which is annoying but even little old me managed to get served all night...perhaps it's different at different times of year but the place did look full to capacity when we were there so I dunno why we've had such different experiences
![]() Can't comment on the waiter service as we haven't ever used it |

They have two types of shows. On the stage they have imitation artists such as Queen, Elvis, Moulin Rouge, Beyonce etc which are all actually really good. The stage is very high up so you can see it from pretty much everywhere. The second type of shows are the best, they are performed in the air, above you so you can see no matter where you are. There are various trapeze acts, all very impressive and you can expect to see performances from Beetlejuice, The Mask, The Matrix, Batman, Spiderman etc. They really are amazing shows and very talented too!! |

I have heard there is a group fighting against them opening here, they have tried to cancell their permit but I have not read anything on it lately. But there is a facebook group about it too.
However, there was a very sad and unfortunate incident in Mexico City with a big nightclub, overcrowded with underaged teens being served alcohol little exits and no emergency exits or blocked one the police came and caused a stampeed 12 people died in the incident. I figure they are going to start being more vigilant on capacity of closed places and fines for serving teenagers alcohol. which is in Mexico (believe it or not) against the law.... I am personally scared of this places but used to love them when I was younger too. It will attract a younger crowd who love the punchis punchis. Im happy in open places with no smoke now
