hi kathy.
you will need to reserve the date with the church and the priest to perform the ceremony separatly.
you will also have to meet with you priest before the ceremony which is not arranged by the church.
you will also need to have your documents sent to your priests secretary with enough time for your paperwork to be completed before your meeting with the priest.
you will need to pay the church fees prior to the ceremony.
all of this is much easier done in town or through a wedding coordinator.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up about wedding arrangments. Can you suggest a wedding coordinator that will just plan the wedding ceremony and not reception? I am having my reception at the Blue Parot and the event planner there will assist with this part of my wedding day.
Thanks again!

I'm new at this so I hope someone can help. My son and future daughter in law will be getting married in November. Everyone is staying at the Gran Porto Real. We are really hoping that they can get married in a church down there. Has anyone had any luck with that and could give some pointers. I did copy the phone number but I'm interested in hearing if it was an easy process. We have the paperwork figured out but are wondering about transportation and how welcoming the priest is to do an out of town wedding.

We just got married in Playa del Carmen. We used Ajuaweddings.com for our wedding planning and they were able to help a lot with all the church paperwork/ necessities etc. Check out there website and you can see pics from our wedding on their blog, "Debra & Octavio wedding". Hope this helps!

We just went to the 10 am Sunday mass. I saw a sign that said 8 and 9 am also. Our service was a children's mass, with kids singing and saved seats in the middle section. All the kids went up to give food donations. Pretty crowded so get there a little early if you want a seat.

What are the approximate costs for using Ajua to just co-ordinate the wedding ceremony?

I have sent my down payment and reserved the date with the Nuestra Senora Del Carmen (Capilla) and I am in the process of getting my documents together.

I had my own deacon that was supposed to conduct the ceremony, which was OK'd by the church, but he is not coming anymore so now everything is in disarray. I need to find a priest and to make sure the time and day is still ok.

I used to have a co worker call the church and do the translation but she got laid off so I don't see her anymore. The language barrier is hard so I think I am forced to use Ajua to do this for me.

Hi All,
I'm getting married in the Nuestra Senora del Carmen church this october and I found this amazing wedding planner to coordinate just the church part (including the transportation to and from the hotel, the flowers, etc). She has taken such a load off because I was going insane on how to figure out how to book the church and stuff. I choose her because she was the quickest to respond to all my emails and she is very very helpful. We chat on Sypke all the time as well.

Here is her information:

As an update I was able to contact the church a few times now and had my friend translate everything. There are 3 priests who can conduct weddings in English. Fr. James, Fr. Bernard and Fr. Jorge. The cost for them to do the ceremony in english is about 2000-2500MXN. The fee for the church is 4000MXN. I already put in a downpayment for 2000MXN and have to pay the rest 30 days before the wedding. Getting all the account info to transfer the funds is a pain in the a$$ so if you can't speak Spanish or have someone who speaks Spanish then hire someone to do it for you. I was going to use Ajua weddings but their price is out of my budget. Would have been nice, but I simply just had to do more leg work and ask some friends to translate to get things done.

Also according to both Carmita and Rosa the secretaries at the Nuestra Senora Del Carmen, you can just scan your docs, email them and bring your ORIGINAL copies when you get married. But beware, if you don't bring them down to the wedding then no ceremony at all, no exception. They have just been saying to mail it because people have forgotten to bring it in the past.

I actually talk to Carmita every few days over chat. Thank God for Google Translator lol.

Any other way to contact the church?

Does anyone know of any other way to contact the church other than by telephone?

I am planning my wedding that will take place in June of next year and I would like to get everything finalized in the next couple days. I do speak Spanish, but there is just so much information that I don't want to miss anything. We are having the reception at the Occidental Flamenco Xcaret resort and although we had been looking at getting married in the St. Francis of Asisi church in the Xcaret park, we decided that we could get married in the Capilla de Nuestra Seņora del Carmen which is beautiful and costs a 1/3 of the price.

Also, can someone give me a landmark near the church so that I have an idea of what it's near. We have been to Playa a couple of times but I don't remember seeing the church....I know it's just 2 blocks away from 5th but I can't think of where it's near.

Thanks in advance!! I have found this forum to be extremely helpful during this tough process.

They are WAY better communicating over the phone though. Sometimes you won't receive an email for days or even a week. If you call you can talk to Carmita right away. I've only emailed to send them my documents and then follow up with a call since they never email me back to say they got it lol.
