Iberostar Tucan - any tips, suggestions, must take items?
We've got our water shoes, SPF 15, Off!, SCUBA gear, and insulated mugs packed - but I wanted to check with the other experts and see if there are any suggestions of things I should take for my stay at the Iberostar Tucan.
We leave Sunday, 9/7 and are so excited! |

Tucan
Hello,
Here are some tips for the Tucan. I would pack beach towels, the resort towels have to be checked out each day from the pool and you are charged if you lose them. I would consider bringing 30 SPF along w/ the 15 SPF unless you do not burn at all, the sun is very intense. Suncreen is expensive in Mexico. When you get into the room pull your mini fridge out of the cubby hole it sitsin . We drank warm beer from the fridge all week until we learned that when we pulled it out away from the wall things were colder. We are leaving in 3 days on the 5th for the Tucan. See you there KK |

Inflatable floats! We took some to the Iberostar Paraiso last month, after reading advice to do so on this site and others. We were *so* glad we did! Lots of people had them, and they were really fun in the pool and the ocean.
If you don't have room in your luggage for floats, the gift shop carries them (at least the Paraiso did), but they cost 3-4 times as much as in the U.S. With pool season ending now, you can probably pick some up very cheap! I saw them on sale at K-Mart yesterday. Also-- a good supply of $1s for tips. Have a great time! We're going to the Tucan/Quetzal in January, so we'll be anxious to hear how you like it. |

You might consider buying eco-friendly sunscreen. You can get it at Wal-Mart, or search Google for other options. I'm also planning on taking some air freshener, since I've read on quite a few posts that the rooms have a musty smell because of the climate. Have a great time, and remember to post a trip report!

tips
Whenever we go to an All-Inclusive, we always take a supply of snacks. Sure, there's non-stop food from 6am to 11pm, but sometimes a Snickers or a bag of pretzels is what you crave, and most AIs are poorly stocked in the snackfood department.
If you don't have one already, I'd highly recommend a swimmers chamois to dry off after diving. I've taken a regular beach towel with me, but it always ends up getting soaked on the diveboat. A chamois is far more effective at drying and is much more compact. |

chamois
They're pretty common anymore. Most any large sporting goods store, like Dick's, should have them. I've seen them in places that sell camping gear, running stores, etc.
They're sometimes calls "sports towels" and aren't a natural chamois like you use on your car. The one I have is a sort of rubbery material that absorbs a lot of water, but when you wring it out, it's almost totally dry. They are great! |

IB Quetzal
I just got back and have a trip report that may help. Don't even think about bringing pool towels or you will have wet damp towels hanging on your porch all week. The trick is to give them your towel card the afternoon you get there and get your towel (s). Every afternoon on the way to the room exchange them for dry one(s) and you'll be ready the next day and always have dry pool towels in your room. The last night you are there, on the way back from the beach or pool, turn in your towels and get your towel card back. Also settle your check and room charges early before breakfast the last day (still holding on to the towel and room card) and then at the last minute, checkout will be a breeze. Here is my IB Tucan Quetzel info.http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/ellyn/iberostar.html
