Wouldn't one of the French islands (Martinique, etc) be closer and within your nationality?

It seems to me they want to live in Playa del Carmen, where we have a lot of people from many nationalities.

Sorry 'bout that - I wasn't very clear. I meant that when/while living in Playa, to send their son to school on a French island if continuing his education in French is a priority to them, because those islands are closer to Playa than Quebec.

ah, gotcha. I misread that totally, thought you were saying they should "stay with their own kind" sort of thing. Sorry for misunderstanding!

I misunderstood it too. I just didn't say anything.

No apology necessary - after your post, I re-read my post - and I was as clear as mud. I just thought that as they said they were France French, sending their son to a island of French "possession" would facilitate a faster and possibly more often commute. I know I'd like that if I made the difficult decision to both move and stay the course in my child's educational direction. I work in a French Immersion school in Ontario and took a month long Spanish course in Cuernavaca. I love both languages, both cultures..... both foods!

instead of dumping the kid off in a foreign land, why not just stay in France a few more years until he is out of school...sounds like the sensible thing to me

You obviously don’t have any teenage boys. Mine keep finding there way home.

Babs - you crack me up.

Ciloun - We have quite a few French immersion schools in South Louisiana.

Hey, Babs.... You should at least give her credit for asking about where to school the kid BEFORE inquiring as to the status of the Playacar beaches!

I did truly pull a *spew* when I read your post, Babs..... as it is exactly what popped into my head when I read the initial post. **shrug**
