TABBULE - just opened, Arabic cuisine

TABBULE - (sounds like Tabbouleh but not spelt the same), has been open for 1 month. Located on 20th Ave and Calle 8. Closed sundays, open 12pm - 12am. Also a hookah establishment or they will remove from your table if you are not using it. As it is so recently opened they do not have a liquor licence yet - but no matter. The owner used to have a restaurant in Qatar - he has only just learnt spanish but prefers to speak english, french or arabic!

The menu is just in spanish - as it is not in the tourist zone, but all the groups of people that came in were not locals - and all spoke english so I think he needs to add english to the menu.

As we had no clue (other than the odd obvious dish like hummous) we asked him to just bring us a variety of food. For 5 of us, we had 2 combination platters which consisted of tabbouleh, hummous, another type of hummous (pine nut maybe?), kibbeh, dolmade type vine leaf wrapped roll, 2 empanadas (1 meat, 1 veggie) and something else I forget, plus 2 chicken kebabs in lebanese bread, and a spiced lamb sausage on leb bread with onions and parsley, fresh made hot leb bread that arrives in a plastic baggie so it doesn't dry out, juice drinks and all for 420 pesos - everything was delicious and we were stuffed. Have added it to our list and hope he does well enough to hire some waiters!

They have a bigscreen/projection TV with music video's playing.....so a mixture really...not overly intrusive if I remember correctly! But not a quiet dark hole either....nice palapa roof, and portable fans. All seating are wooden sofas and foam pads....very arabic really!

I think Maktub, on 5th avenue next door to Babe's 2 (between Calles 28 and 30). I'm excited to try the new place, although I have always enjoyed Maktub.

Yes, Maktub. I've always been very impressed by that place, especially the dolmas!
