hey, just think that in the winter months you don't need the lawn service, so there's a good portion of housekeeper money right there!

I mow at our house. We have a small but somewhat awkward laid out yard. It only takes about an hour to do the whole thing. I also fertilize, weed, etc. I don't mind it at all as I love to be outdoors.

Housework is another matter. We have a housekeeper and it's the best money we spend. She comes every other week and it saves me a ton of frustration and time. And my house smells and looks great - she does a better job than I ever could!

I will mow it when the weather is nice (translate below 90 degree).
But I do have a nice guy who does a great job for $25 (includes weed eat and edge) The name of his company is:
Mo Better Yard Care.

I scoop the dog poop and hubby mows the lawn and rakes the leaves.
We thought about using a maid service but with just the two of us at home it’s hard to justify the cost.

I have three teenage boys 17, 15, 15 and about 1.5 acres to mow, so of course, I mow it.

We also had a pest control service who came every other month who just took care of the perimiter of the house. Our cat does a pretty good job with the inside bugs should there be any. He has left us several dead scorpions so he has been working hard. But we canceled that service as well, it was $60 a visit.
Right now hubby is out replacing some rotted boards on the back deck rather than hiring someone. Before retirement these were jobs that we hired out so we could enjoy our leisure time. Now it's about saving money, but also gives us a sense of accomplishment. Nice to sit with a glass of wine or beer at the end of the day and review the fruits of our labor.

Exactly! Plus you get to spend that money on yourselves. It might take you a bit longer, but I love the feel of extra money in my pocket. We also cancelled the pest control people as well, and trying to go totally organic on the lawn and garden. Such a good feeling. I am proud of you guys

No you're not! You get to go on lovely vacations and have a wonderful time. That's how I look at my "thrify" ways. I would love to hire a house cleaning service and yard service, who wouldn't? But I do love our month long vacations, so that's what keeps us going. If I had an endless supply of money though, I would pay to have it all done!

We have an acre and a half on the side of a very steep hill, which is somewhat dangerous to mow. I used to have a riding mower when the boys were young, and I did the work myself. When my eldest was old enough to use the mower, he tried to do the lawn but could not do too much of it, as he did not have enough ballast to keep the mower from flipping as he went up the hill! We now have a service come in one a week for about $40.00, a sum well spent to my mind.

We also have a team of cleaning people come in once a week, as our house is pretty big for us to do a thorough job. We prefer to have people do the cleaning, I do the laundry for the two of us (my son does his own), my wife the cooking. As we both work long hours, we then have lots of time for walks, or kayaking, or whatever.
