Hubby bought a really nice zero turn mower last year. He says he must be getting old, he really enjoys mowing our 4 acres. Takes about 1.5 hours. I do all the weeding of the flower and herb gardens. I have only driven this beast a couple times, never mowed with it! Suits me fine!

SoCal is under drought conditions...so no watering after 6am until 7pm. Like we remember to water after 7pm???...so we have mostly tan-colored dead weeds (crabgrass) where grass should be in the front yard. The backyard does not get as hot as the front, so the grass is only 1/2 dead
![]() ![]() When we do have our front yard crabgrass lawn, MikeW mows it. I typically edge it, but our neighbor has been doing it; I haven't done it yet this year ![]() Ya think he is trying to tell us something? ![]()

I have a kid for 4 more years or so to do it. Been getting out of it for about 7or 8 years now. He gets paid by the business & that's part of his job, he has 3 other lawns too, bugger gettin' plenty o' money (good thing, he has expensive tastes that I'm not willing to pay for completely). It's a fairly big lot, takes about and hour (dodging trees etc). Apparently I get to do the weeding, they're my flowers & I have to weed them. I love flowers, I hate weeding, if there were no mosquitoes
I might semi enjoy it.Lil G, my vote is pass along the info, don't tell him about the site. |

Steve mows the back lawn, it's small and he really enjoys puttering around the yard. Our front is a hill and since Steve has trouble with his knees, we pay this guy down the street to cut it.... WHICH is really pittiful considering we have two healthy teenage boys at home who could cut it.

When I was growing up on the farm, I had to mow on our riding mower, our entire home quarter, it took me about three hours once or twice a week, then after I had to go around all the trees with the push mower. It was lovely being an only child on a grain farm, I had lots of work!

Mike mows the lawn, does the trimming and blowing/cleaning up of clippings. He wouldn't let me mow the lawn unless he was totally incapacitated.
It's not that I don't know how to do a proper job. Up in Connecticut, I mowed the 2 acre lawn that had all sorts of trees and bushes with a self-propelled walk behind mower. It took me over 3 hours each time and during the summer, I frequently had to mow 2 times a week. ![]() Although I don't mow, I am "in charge" of taking care of almost all the pruning, weeding and planting. Keeping our tropical plants under control during the summer months (6 out of 12) is almost a full time job.... Last edited by JoanieBlon; 07-23-2008 at 03:16 PM.. |

My neighbour's kids (girls) started back mowing their lawn. I asked her what happened to the service she was using, and she told me that like everybody else she knows, they're quitting with landscaping folks and starting to do their own yard. More money in the pocket. Isn't that great?

I know of a recently retired mailman who was bored and wanted to start a part time lawnmowing business/ snow removal. His first year grossed 60k
. He had some equipment investment the first year which really helped but the bottom line is he is paid mostly cash and reports only what he wants to the IRS Not bad
