what if I own the lawn business AND own a home? I need the first to hold the second...

I do see your point about people tightening their belts and that being a good thing for them... but a lot of small and "luxury item" businesses are going to feel a big pinch for awhile... so not so good for them... shit out of luck, as it were...

That's the thing. Small businesses are going under, and it's unfortunate. But we generally begin to think of "us" first before we think of them. Desperate times calls for desperate measures as Daddy used to say. Not that we're desperate...yet, but for some, those times have come. Sadly....sigh

Maybe after the idiot moves back to Texas things will pick back up

Probably. But with higher gas prices, higher food, clothing, specialty goods etc., people are going to cut back. My sister-in-law is a beautician and she has seen a huge cut back at her salon. People go in for special occasions but many are not going every week like they used to. I have cut back on getting a manicure every week and a pedicure every two weeks. Now I do them at home and only go if I have something special coming up. I also quit my weekly massages (really miss that) and will probably go when my back is aching more than usual. No more luxury stuff for the moment.

Ditto. Doing my own nails, etc. or not . Damn I miss that luxury. And a massage.... that's history. I still get my hair done but that's not a big deal as I only have the highlights every 3 months and a cut 6 weeks or so. I do try to stretch both if I can. I do feel for the service folks that are/will be feeling the "squeeze". I'm sure that they have bills just like the rest of us, mortgages, utlilities, car payments, etc.

We men do have our priorities you know. I did feel real bad for Softy for doing the lawn. So I bought her the smallest push type lawn mower I can find, so that she won't have to push it so hard. Next year I think I'll get her one of those reel ones, that way she won't wake me up with that noisy engine.

All the yard work is why we are looking for a smaller house or condo in the city- I (we? ) am sick of spending the majority of my spare time at home and my weekends doing yardwork all through our already way too short summers.

Isn't that why God made man anyways. To mow the lawn and change the batteries in a womans vibrator.

Yes, with sperm banks and batteries, Stogey, I am afraid you guys really are completely superfluous.

Anachronistic even!

Buy a bar. One of the samll businesses that arent really affected by hard times. It can actually be a boost. People always seem to find money for a drink or three

Oh, and i mow my own lawn.

Churches also tend to do better during economic downturns. Now there is a thought, you could make up a whole new religion, call it Mormontology or Scientmonism.
