Who mows your lawn?
While mowing this morning I began to wonder who at your house mows?
We used to use a lawn service but to save a little $$ replaced our dead mower this spring with a new one and I have become the official mower. I think of it as a great work-out and get great satisfaction looking at the freshly cut grass. |

Mrs. B gets that happy chore, as of this lawn season. I don't walk so very good anymore, since last summer. Had to get a new mower last year. The 30+ year-old two-stroke gas Lawn Boy finally packed it in, and we figured on getting a Black & Decker cordless electric. They're so damned popular that they're real hard to get. Borrowed a corded electric to tide us over. Man, that cord is a pain in the butt. Had to go on a waiting list at 3 different places and waited about 4 months before we got the cordless one. It was so late in the season that it only got one use last year. The big battery makes it a bit heavy to handle, but Mrs. B is a sturdy gal, and it works pretty well.

We do all of our own yard maintenance, and for the love of pete, I don't know why we still do... he mows/edges, I weed and deadhead plants in the landscaped areas... our front yard is pretty good sized, so the whole process takes him a good couple of hours and it is so hot... he's doing that "counting his steps" thing for work and mowing will rack up 4,000 steps or so on his pedometer, so that's a plus for him...
the only time we had a lawn service was right after Mike had surgery on his nose and throat and he physically wasn't allowed to be out there doing it, so we hired a crew for that spring/summer... we talk about doing that again, but never do... although the time factor is something we think about--that crew of 4 had the whole yard, front and back, done in about 20 minutes... I've mowed twice in my life... once the mower (okay I) hit a rock and broke a blade and the other time the mower (okay I) rolled into some mud and the mower stopped and started smoking... I can take a hint....

Don does the mowing and edging, usually. I do everything else in the yard. And I mean everything else, all me- watering, fertilizing, planting, weeding, deadheading, pruning, harvesting, etc. And yet somehow with that 30 minutes a week worth of work he does, he thinks the yard is 'too much work'! Yeah, okay, buddy. |

![]() ![]() (But reminded of the old saw about why men are better than vibrators ..... because vibrators can't mow lawns! )All the yard work is why we are looking for a smaller house or condo in the city- I (we? ![]() ) am sick of spending the majority of my spare time at home and my weekends doing yardwork all through our already way too short summers.
