Safe size at Riu Palace
Okay, I know this sounds like a stupid question...but Has anyone measured the size of the safe's at the Riu or is anyone going in the near future that would be willing to do so?
Seems like I will need to take my laptop with me and I'm wondering if it will actually fit in the safe (it's pretty small). THANKS!!! |

I've never measured it but there's no way any laptop I've ever seen will fit in it. Good thing though is the Manager told us this past December you can use the WiFi in the lobby area and she was also hoping to have it in all the rooms sometime this year.

The laptop in question is just a couple of inches larger than a hard cover book. I remember the safes were on the smaller side...just can't remember how small. Found a picture on the RiuBambu site but it's hard to tell the actual size!

I didn't measure, but did take a picture of it with the iron next to it. You can see it here...
http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...ip-report.html Just scroll down the first page to the room pics. Of course, this was the Riu Palace Riviera Maya - don't know if it's the same at the Riu Palace Mexico. |

i've never had luck at any hotel getting my laptop to fit into a safe. My laptop is pretty small too but never small enough for those wallet size tin cans. I normally lock my laptop case and lock it in my luggage, we did this with all of our expensive stuff each time we left the room just in case. Buy some other locks than the standard luggage lock because that is easily lock-picked or opened with a similar key, and be sure not to leave the key on the dresser

We were at the Riu Palace RM in June and I brought my 15.1" dell laptop. It didn't fit in the safe, so I brought a laptop cable lock and just locked it to the bed, or closet rod then tucked into a backpack hanging on a hanger. Worked fine. The cables are pretty cheap to buy and are reassuring to use.
