I visited Fitday but one thing they seem to only have (1 cup servings) and no half cups? I actually measure my rice or I'll end up having way too much (brown rice btw).

Was able to see last night that I eat WAY TOO MANY carbs! But fruits are my life. During summer months, I cannot stop eating all the different types of cherries or berries. I love Nectarines and can polish of a couple a day. Will have to cut back on potatoes, but not my fruits.

You can enter whatever serving size you want. If the designation is by the cup, you enter ".5" and you're golden.

I am trying to wean myself off sugar, because in the past I know after a couple weeks of eating very little I would just magically lose my craving for it- but man those two weeks are tough.

And I can't get rid of it entirely obviously, I have this need for a treat daily and denying it is not a good idea.

so what are good low fat treats? My old standbys of black licorice, Jello and fudgesicles are boring the heck out of me. Rice Krispy squares are pretty low cal/low fat, right?

I want to find one of those popsicle makers and make some juice pops this weekend, those are good, with lemonade or grape or orange/banana juice. What else?

what do you mean by 'cooled oatmeal'?

I eat it all the time! With 1% milk- it doesn't have much fat, it can't! I use plain old cooking oats, I buy the red and blue bag of Quaker Oats, no packaged oatmeal with a bunch of additives in it- those might have fat?

I think we should incorporate exercise/movement too, log what we do each day - it might help us be more accountable?

Any ideas on how we can do this?
We can all just post what we ate the day before, and then point out the errors of our ways, maybe?

It can be on ongoing thread that way, and no need to do it every single day, everyone can post as often or as little as you want maybe?

It would be a good way to get meal and snack ideas too.
I do this at thedailyplate.com. You can log everything, it has a huge database, and if what you are eating is not listed, you can log all the info and it will be added. They also have a great forum. You can have 'friends' where you can send messages or post messages within your diary. You can have it set so everyone sees what you eat, or make it private. There groups that you can join too if there is one that gives you motivation. I've learned alot about nutrition, exercise and gotten some good recipes here.

What I do for a "sweet" treat that isn't chocolate or Nutella based (see, I've been obsessing since I quit last week), is to add half a banana, strawberries, some unsweetened orange juice, and lots of ice and blend the crap out of it until I have a smoothie. It helps. Thank goodness I am not a huge fan of ice cream (unless it is coated in chocolate/nuts), plus cookies and cakes do nada for me, so I don't get sugar from those, mainly from all the fruits I'm eating now. I have been substituting a cup of blueberries in place of my "N" (bad word for me now) and trying not to think of that huge jar in the refrigerator

My favorite sugar-free sweet treat is to make a huge "chocolate milkshake" - I use two cups of soy milk (reg skim milk is good, too), two big spoons of sugar-free Nestle Quick, and two previously frozen over-ripe bananas, broken into chunks in the blender with the rest. You can add a small scoop of peanut butter too if you want. Then I blend it til smooth and it's darn near as good as the real thing. The frozen nanners make it thick and frosty. I have these for breakfast, too, but replace the Quik with chocolate protein powder. I may have one now!

Some of the things my friends and hubby try to keep their weight down is to not eat anything at all after 7:00 pm (works for hubby) unless we're going out with friends or somewhere special. A friend eats whatever she wants on say Monday, then Tuesday she will watch what she eats, and continue this way all through the week. Seems to work for her, but I don't think it would work for me. One goes on a "fast" for 24 hours and only takes in liquids. She swears by this method.

I do fine if I up my workouts, limit portions, and stay clear, clear away from anything that would make me fall...like that darn N thingy and chocolates.

I list the ingredients separately in my custom food list, then when I have a sandwich I just go thru my list and select what I need and adjust the quantity if needed.

For a great low cal/low fat snack try frozen red grapes. They are so good and kind of taste like a popsicle

I really respect all of you that are keeping a food journal- I think its a great idea that I know I would never, ever keep up with it......which for sure means I really should do one......

FWIW, and I think it's worth a lot, they say that the one thing that is consistent among people who have lost weight and kept it off long term, regardless of the method of losing it, is that a huge percentage of them kept food journals. I guess it keeps your brain from justifying the things you know you shouldn't eat but do anyway.
