Reef Club
Returned from Sandos Playacar two weeks ago
![]() and now have chance to return to Playacar in September I've seen a good deal to the Reef Club and just wondering if anyone has stayed there recently and has any info to share. As usual it's the old beach issue I'm bothered about. In June we walked from the Sandos to the Allegro but didn't get as far as the Reef so I don't know current situation. I'm travelling with my mum who has never been to Mexico before - I just know she'll fall in love with the place as we did 4 years ago.................... what do they put in the drinks to make you keep returning???? |

The Reef Club has gotten very mixed (and some awful) reviews.
I suppose if you know you are going to a very basic resort and have no high expectations, it would be fine. ...but I did read some reviews of folks who had low expectations and were still disappointed. On the other hand....some loved it. |

Thanks for the quick response - I did wonder if there were issues as the price was so low. We're not too fussy but we will be there for two weeks so if it isn't up to scratch things could start to get us down. Probably better to pay a bit more - hubby won't be pleased especially as he's staying at home!!!

We stayed there this past spring. We knew that it was not a high end resort when we booked our room. I would say that the Reef is a budget place to stay with basic food. Nothing special about it. Since this was our first trip to Playa we had no idea where to stay and thought the location of the Reef would be close to everything and for a reasonable price. Now that we know more about the area we would not return to the Reef. There are much better places to stay.

I used to work there..
I think it's pretty simple.. You kinda get what u pay for... and alot of people think that it's just a "good" deal.. its not really that.. you actually get what u pay for.. ![]() Really nice and beautiful resort but needs a few things to be changed.. say hi to my friends at the reception and the animation staff if u go there.. ![]() |

I just went to the Reef in June. It really wasn't too bad. It isn't a super nice place, some would call it a budget resort. The food is just okay, which I didn't care too much about because we eat in town so often ( I really don't recommend the ala carte rest.). It was clean, comfortable and close to town. The beach was actually a pleasant surprise. Lots of loungers, pretty big beach area. They do have the large sand bags in front of the resort. It didn't bother anyone in our group.
I just got a feeling of being ignored the whole time we were there. BTW we tip very generously and are very polite so I know that was not the issue. Some of the bartenders and wait staff are great and some act like they are being bothered by you. Drinks were plenty strong and for the most part were very good. If you got a really good deal, go for it and eat in town as often as possible. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to help ![]() |

Thanks Cabinfever that was really useful.
As this will be my mum's very first visit to Playa and Mexico I want everything to be as good as possible for her, so I think I'll wait and see if i can get a good price for Sandos. Cheers once again for taking the time to respond ![]() |

Cheers for that - but the Sandos came down in price so I jumped in there again. I'm bringing my mother to Mexico for her first visit and having recently stayed at the Sandos I know she'll be happy with it. I'm so excited about finally showing her Playa - she's listened to me rave about it for the last four years and now she's finally going to see it

It's better than hanging around in the Inversion Layer
Funjet has a good deal for Christmas for this place. Um, well; $1400 isn't a good deal but for Christmas; it's not half bad.
So if the Reef Club's beach isn't up to par, I could walk about a half an hour south in Playacar and find a nice beach or take a 50-peso cab ride to Kool or Mamita's? |
