Playa vs Punta Cana- My two cents
Just in case a few of you out there were pondering trying out the Dominican Republic over PDC, I just got home from my first trip to Punta Cana. At a glance, Punta Cana's beaches are nicer. Very wide with many palm trees growing native in them to provide shade. PDC (Mexico in Genral) kicks Punta Canas butt in every other category.
Beaches- Punta Water (clearity and snorkeling/diving)- PDC Infrastructure (power- roads- h2o)- PDC Food and Restaurants- PDC Nightlife - PDC Off Resort Activities- PDC People/Locals- PDC If you were thinking about trying out the Dominican Republic for variety, as we did. For the record, we stayed at Secrets Excellence in Punta Cana, and we usually stay at the ASP in Mexico. We are both 30 |

PC vs. PDC
I'd agree with Pauly's assessment. Punta Cana is beautiful, especially the beaches which are wide with soft white sand and are lined with tall palm trees. The northern half faces the Atlantic and does seem to have rougher water and less clarity than the southern part.
If you have no intention of ever leaving the resort grounds, then you'd like Punta Cana just fine. There is no town and no sights to see locally. There are some tours of the countryside, but there's no local flavor. If you've never been to PC, by all means, check it out. We've been to both PC and PDC and we'll probably not go back to PC just because it's not our style. We like more local sights and activity other than just hanging out at the resort. |
