Sat at the bar for a few hours one night and according to the bill I drank 14 beers. Not likely since I would have passed out or died from that many beers. I didn't keep track of how many I actually drank so my bad. After that I pay as I go or check with the bartender every once in awhile to see what her tally is up to that point as a reality check. That was the only time that happened. Lessons learned I guess.
Great place though, just be wise as you would anywhere else in the world when drinking and partying. Pay as you go is always best to avoid a buzz kill when the bill comes and you have to dispute it. Not fun at all. BTW: You can get a very nice and strong grande marg at La Tarraya for 40 pesos. It is a bargain. I always squeeze extra lime juice in mine since it is a little too strong sometimes. Not complaining at all, just sayin. |

I don't expect others to agree with this, but I find paying as I go to be a hassle. I just run a tab and if I end up getting hosed by $10 over the course of 3 hours of partying, it is a small drop in the bucket compared to the price of the whole vacation. But if folks don't mind paying as they go, that certainly would prevent getting hosed. Whatever works for ya.

Totally agree that paying as you go is a hassle for sure. Keeping a running tally as you go is a good option and I also find that the overall prices down in Playa are cheap, cheap, cheap compared to the Washington, DC area so it is not that big of a deal really, just the principal.. For those who do need to watch their budget or don't want to be over charged (inadvertently or otherwise) paying as go is the best way to be sure.
I'm always pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive things are. We spent several hours at Kool with some friends, drinking and eating, and our total bill for four of us was about $700 pesos so about $63 US. Here in DC it would have been about $250 or more for sure. Got to love that. |
