Rio Secreto Tour with Alltournative!

Hey Guys- I went on this tour this weekend. It's not listed on their website, but it was a ton of fun. Read my report here.

Sounds really interesting, and beautiful. We were very impressed with Alltourative's operation as well when we did their Coba Pac Chen tour.

We toured through the dry caves at Aktun Chen- so, this system is younger, or what- you said it is 'still growing'?

Well, I never did the Aktun Chen system, but I assume it's just as decorated. What I have seen the most of are caves that are now full of water because I often cave dive (well, they filled up thousands of years ago). Seeing a dry cave was amazing for me because it was so much more decorated than the ones that are full of water. It's had the last 10,000 years or so to continue to grow, instead of being stopped by being flooded.

I see what you mean, as in the stalactites and mites are still growing drip by drip, as opposed to the flooded caves/caverns! Sorry! but aren't they eons older than just 10,000 years?

Yes, Aktun Chen was pretty neat too. Except for the bats (no, they were cool too.)

From what I understand, Alltournative always does a really nice job. My friend said she has now been on three Alltournative tours and all of them were worth the money. And no... I don't get paid by them!

Yes- we went to a presentation about the cave in the Yucatan a couple of months ago. They are very very old. In the last I-dunno-how-many millions of years, the caves here have been dry three times. Right now they are wet for the most part... just waiting on the next environmental change, I guess. Maybe they'll be dry again after this whole global warming thing does it's do.

Yeah, you never know, huh! I can hardly wait to dive in a cenote cavern, I want to do it in December.
