But no matter what happens, I CAN'T lose all my posts!!!
I like "TJ" and "Kat" personally. I would choose just "Uno" myself. Like "Mogley" An accidental misspelled version of Mogli. How cool is that!?!

What's up buddy? I'm not, but I'll listen. What good thing did you cook today? I made grilled chops, herb stuffing and steamed broccoli.

I have a dishwasher going full of bottles to get ready to bottle some ale in the next couple days, made pepper jelly the other night, have some salmon in the brine to smoke soon... All good here.

I was a scum today and cooked nothing,,,,,wifey (Tammy) had dinner with co-workers which spouses were NOT invited to ..stupid eh? which was fine since the sirloin I cooked was far superior to that sorry assed stuffed fish.... Haven't got a shot at a buck, the neighbor tells me my honey is too dark to make mead and leaving for playa Thursday.... life is good.

Do advanced theorems just exist, regardless of our finding and explaining them? The discovered or created question was on a flyer for a seminar about philosophy and math and it really intrigued me.

in this vein- does anyone really buy the idea that 'your perception is reality'? I tend to think there is only one reality, but many different perceptions of it, perhaps....or is the former just a fancy, 'New Agey' way of saying that?
I think that there are other dimensions.

I think that there are other dimensions.

that's what i'm saying: they exist--math is part of the order of the world... like you might know you needed 3 sticks to start a fire or whatever, but it was never called "3" until someone started a numbering system...

shapes, angles, all of geometry exists in nature--we just put the idea of measuring it for a concrete number into place...

ryan is in AP calculus and the stuff he's scrawling on a piece of paper is supposed to be math... heh... i don't understand it enough to know what it's identifying... but i think it's still just another building block on top of other math

so i guess bottom line i'm more on the "discovery" side than the "created" side...

I am still on the discovery side too, but that certainly gets tougher, Mel....I mean really complicated theorems and crap DO have to be thunked up and no one other than humans are smart enough to think em....even though they would be true according to the 'rules' of the universe regardless...so that would be both discovered and created in a sense, no?

Voltaire said that 'If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.'

(So we did. )

I just asked a math major and she said discovery too because "math never changes." And I guess some theorems do get proven wrong, but perhaps because we interpreted them wrong not because they were, in fact, incorrect.

I tend to think it's both because it takes imagination and intellect to identify and articulate those discoveries in the first place. Weird to think of all that math just hanging out there, unchanging, waiting to be discovered.
