I'm glad I no longer have a commute

But I was out bringing Landon to appointments and all that jazz, so I had to endure it.

Are you changing jobs??

Thumbs down It's COLD!!!!

BRRRRRR!!! This whole freakin' week has been FREEZING here in Tampa! We arrived home on Sunday evening to 40F temperatures that bottomed out at about 30F. The past 2 nights we have had HARD freezes ~ around 25F - 27F at our home in "downtown" Tampa....it's been even colder North and East of the city. Over the weekend the temperatures are supposed to plummet even lower ~ with a chance of snow! Don't see that very often around here.

We've had heavy ice on our windshield the past 2 mornings and all of the plants that I put in this past year are badly damaged. I'm not sure that any of them will survive the weather we've been having. It's been so cold that it was pointless to try to cover them and we have too many anyway.

This morning it was 7 degrees colder in Brandon ~ a Tampa suburb ~ than it was in New York City! Some "chilly" weather is nice for a change now and then....BUT...this is ridiculous! Looks like no hope of getting out of this current Arctic blast until sometime next week.

Just as an afternote ~ good thing we did our train trip from Chicago to Seattle when we did ~ December 30th to January 1st! It's been SO cold up in North Dakota and Montana that the trains have been having power failures and people are being transported by bus! I understand that Chicago is supposed to get a FOOT of snow today too.....

I'd be shoveling snow in short sleeves if it was 30 F

That is pretty crazy for Tampa though. Hope everyone is able to stay safe.

Do homes even have proper furnaces down there?

Furnaces? HAHAHA!!! We do have a heat strip on our AC unit which allows us to run electric heat ~ at EXTREME costs. We normally never turn on the heat, but we have the past couple of nights for a couple of hours ~ just to take the chill off the house. When we get up in the morning, the temps have been around 58F in the house.

Many people ~ especially those who live in poorer, run-down neighborhoods have NO heat and resort to space heaters. You hear LOTS of fire trucks when it gets cold here.... Some folks have old-fashioned kerosene "furnaces." You can see the kerosene tanks perched on stands outside their homes.

Sure is...but for the past few days and for the foreseeable future, I'm sipping herbal tea. Trying to shed the 10 pounds I've managed to sneak on my body since September. Too many GOOD meals while traveling ~ too much going out to dinner ~ too much holiday celebrating! I've got 6 pounds to go, and have cut out alcohol as unneccesary calories. To be honest, I may take a break over the weekend if it keeps getting colder!

Sounds like you're in need of a snuggie shipment down there then

Don't older southern homes have their water pipes entering the house on the outside too?

Thank goodness, our water pipes are buried about 10 inches down in the front yard and UNDER our cement foundation, so they're pretty well protected. Something was going on with the city water pipes, though. Last night, they were digging up the street 2 houses up from us ~ we could see water leaking out into the gutter from somewhere....maybe the cold got to the pipes?

We DO have a fireplace in our house ~ not very common down here ~ but neglected to buy any firewood earlier this year, and there's no hope of getting any right now. I'll be doing a self-clean of my electric oven on Saturday so we can benefit from the residual effects of the high heat!

Oh thank you! I thought I was the only one who felt this way today. Grrr.

Random thought: Why do they call it 'common sense' when it doesn't really seem to be all that common? Just sayin'.

Anybody watch the season premiere of “Man vs. Wild” Bear really out did himself, or maybe he just did himself?

He gave himself a salt water enema, after only being at sea a few hours. I think he could have just explained that one.

I think at this point the producers are thinking up things he can do to himself and then putting him in that situation.

oh and.................Morning all!!

Does anyone wish that Heather would come out and play more often?

I've only seen one or two episodes of MvW until yesterday, when I caught the marathon a couple times throughout the day.

Bear Grylls is my new hero.

I agree that they're pretty much just putting him is crazy situations, but that's the fun part of the show. I found it very interesting, and I took a ton of mental notes just in case I'm ever stranded in Africa or the Panama jungle

Why?

I'm not a fan. He is too extreme. I liked survivor man. Boring, but more realistic for average people.

Bear says "I'll teach YOU how to survive out here!" Provided you know who to rock climb, extreme ski, and sky dive... Otherwise your gunna die!"

I don't think it's necessary to bite a chunk of meat out of a fishes back while it's still flopping around. Raw fish, sure no problem. But dispatch it humanity first.

Kind of a "all hype no useful info" show.

Don't do it. Unless of course "You're an EXPERT rock climber!" As he always says.

Half the crap he does is exactly OPPOSITE of what you are supposed to do in a survival situation.
