Yeah, nothing against Winnipeg but it is a big city, very cold and windy in winter, and the gang violence is pretty bad, not that it would affect him.....it's just not a happy city. One Great City (by the Weakerthans) late afternoon another day is nearly done a darker grey is breaking through a lighter one a thousand sharpened elbows in the underground that hollow hurried sound of feet on polished floor and in the dollar store the clerk is closing up and counting loonies trying not to say..... i hate winnipeg the driver checks the mirror seven minutes late crowded riders' restlessness enunciates the Guess Who suck, the Jets were lousy anyway the same mood every day and in the turning lane someone's stalled again he's talking to himself and hears the price of gas repeat his phrase i hate winnipeg up above us all, leaning into sky our golden business boy will watch the north end die and sing 'i love this town' then let his arching wrecking ball proclaim: "i...hate...winnipeg" |

Kat: One concern I'd have about W going to community college is that he'd get bored and turn off...any chance there are smaller liberal arts schools in your area that might offer him aid $ because of his high test scores? My friend's son applied late to Rider U and got a surprisingly good aid package based on high test scores(some schools do that to bring their score profiles up). He was a B student. We will also offer promising transfer students aid packages here, whereas big state schools won't. PS: Hi Randomites, I've missed you. Haven't had much time to catch up, between big job fair Thursday and mom deciding clothing is an optional accessory

I'm checking with my old advisor at the U of MN to see if liberal arts there would be an option. |

I had average grades in HS (3.2) and posted above average test scores (nothing crazy, but decent), but I was eligible for quite a few random scholarships and grants due to a few extracurricular activities I participated in, and because I simply wrote a couple essays for the applications and ended up getting 'em. My mom was frustrated with me too, I remember, for dragging my feet with the applications and such. But that was until she showed me the price tags for school for four years, and what I could do with a few paragraph essays that would significantly reduce those numbers. And also informed me how much she could realistically help me with paying, and how much would be on me to pay. ![]() ![]()

At the next MN peep meet, you will see the large bruise on my forehead from me bashing my head into the wall. Now granted I know that no guy at 18 thinks his mom knows anything about anything, but I generally think I'm a pretty smart on the ball kind of mom. ![]() Brown sugar cinnamon or cinnamon roll? |
