I trust you've canceled any and all future plans to vacation in Mexico, then?

A summer home in British Columbia, and a winter home in Mexico. I'll wave at Oregon from the plane twice a year on the way by. I'd be okay with that.

For sure.

I can fly family and friends wherever we live to visit whenever we want!

I would bum all over Europe, see the world- and have a tropical getaway home in Fiji or Thailand or somewhere that would serve as a hub for the visitors.

I think the real question is : does your love for life out weigh your love for country?

Definitely.

We had a wild party last night (no, not really). I had one or two too many Guinness. Ow.

Sent the kids home with the 14 year old at 8:00, and then played a wildly competitive game of original Trivial Pursuit, guys against the girls. The guys won. That is just wrong!

we often debate whether it is smarter to buy a property in Mexico (or other hot holiday place) or just plan on renting in different places once we sem- retire...and maybe get a cabin at a lake here instead, if anything.

Are you lake people or ocean beach people? Would you rent it out and which would rent better?

THREE couples we know from here have bought condos in Phoenix in the past year.

I vote lake house. More seasonal use. Then the beach is to look forward to for vacations.

see? those are all the pros we thought of for both sides

if we pick a "higher end" condo then it's definitely rentable through the site management company

we do have our "extra" issues with Michael and are looking at the safety features of both... it might be harder to "Michael proof" a lake house as far as escape routes... but a lake house would be much closer... closest beach is a 7+ hour drive; a lake would be under 2...

we tend to be more beachy people so that appeals to us... and as my parents age and no one steps up to watch michael, we may never go to mexico again after the next few years so stateside beaches may be all we get to do... biggest boon: the condos we're looking at has this pool:

just looked at the "ocean" in the background--I think they lightened the color a tad... it's a Texas beach after all
