No head lamps. Cap lamps, they are called. That is mining lingo.

Learned to use a Hilti gun today. Useful in case of fire if you can't get to a refuge station in time- you must brattice yourself in at the face of the panel. (not shaft-those are vertical.)

The roof of the panel is the 'back' and the sides, the ribs- before each shift you must sound and then scale the drummy sounding spots before any work can begin.

More mining lingo. Info overload.

And I get my new hard hat tomorrow morning. And coveralls. And I cannot wear my contacts down in the mine, so I have to wear my glasses tomorow. I will be real cute, I am sure.

I can't sleep. I unknowingly sat down in poison ivy on the 4th of July (in a short dress and a thong). I'll spare you all the rest of the gruesome details. I'm hopped up on 'roids as we speak (waiting for it to take it's normal course of action was NOT an option). This is not my first experience with PI in that area (see running thread for story). Nature hates me

How's that for random?

Doesn't sound like something you want to get used to.

I am so sorry. That must itch

I have a friend who sat in some whilst skinny dipping and had to ride his motorcycle from Missouri to Houston, TX three days later.

This is too good.

I mix the misery of poison oak with (short dress and thong) in my brain and come up with sexy. That's an outdoor gurl right there!

I'm sorry Sara, poison oak/ivy/sumac doesn't have much effect on me. I waller in it often enough I'm a bit desensitized.

It's nasty looking stuff though when it sets in. I have friends that have gotten it in "extremely sensitive areas" before. Takes a month to go away.

Aw, nuts. I think I just mangled my phone interview. Awkward setup, tough questions. I think I was short on details. It only lasted about 15 minutes. I'll know soon if I'm invited to campus but I don't have my hopes up like the other job.

Bright side: at least my cover letter and teaching philosophy finally got a bite.

Pay is amazing, OT is double time and I have a carpool of mostly cool people (the only other woman is the only mildly annoying one, she's a bit of a prig).

What's not to like!? oh yeah....getting up at 5:30 AM ...that is taking a bit of getting used to!

I go down into the mine tomorrow on a tour. 3200 feet down. Gulp.

I will take pictures and do a little report. Some may find it a bit interesting.
Glad to hear the new job is going well. I'd love to see pics of the men. I mean, the mine.
