I thought that was your particular area of expertise? I had that happen to me once on holiday. Ended up going to one of those two-hour opticians and buying a pair. A vacation item I had not budgeted for. Good luck finding them.

oh, your poor friend- I've called in sick the past couple of days. There's no way I can work as is.

I'm sorry Sara, poison oak/ivy/sumac doesn't have much effect on me. I waller in it often enough I'm a bit desensitized.

It's nasty looking stuff though when it sets in. I have friends that have gotten it in "extremely sensitive areas" before. Takes a month to go away.
It BETTER not take a month to go away And if you could see the after effects- there would be no sexy on the brain

How's that for random?
Ouch. Not random...purposeful.
Ask your doc for Cloderm. You'll only be able to use it for 2 weeks--butt it works...

Bright side: at least my cover letter and teaching philosophy finally got a bite.
However, you might have done better than the unknown other person(s). The committee has a list of scripted questions they need to get through--and so can't really deviate from it. Don't be surprised (a.k.a be prepared) if they call back to ask more questions.

I just felt so nervous and out of my element. You think it'd be less so on the phone, but I think I would have done better face to face. I had all these notes and smart things I wanted to say, and I felt afterward like I'd just plowed through it and bungled it. I'm glad I brushed up on ye olde composition theory, though. They DID ask one about that!

Nothing to be done but wait and see. I appreciate all of the advice; if anything, this has been a good experience for me.

Like you said, at least you got an interview!

I'm the same way with phone interviews. My last job's main interview was over the phone. The manager lived in Maryland, and had a very east coast accent, and talked fast, and kind of quiet. She did the interview on speakerphone from her blackberry, so there was a little delay each time either of us said anything, and it sounded like we were a million miles away from each other. We cut each other off mid-sentence quite a few times, and there were a couple awkward silences when we waited too long for the other to respond. I felt like an idiot; no flow whatsoever to the conversation.

But, I got the job. So I wish you the same fortune!

Don't feel bad. Like Bonny said the committee has a list of questions to which they must adhere. 15 minutes is very good. If they have a number of candidates to interview, then, they are not going to do long phone interviews. Because of individual schedules, it's hard to get a committee together especially during summer break, so the process of interviewing candidates has to be done in a day or two.

Good luck, Mel! I've had 2 terrible phone interviews in my life and 1 great one. I got the 2 jobs with the terrible interview and not the one that I thought I rocked I guess I'm not that good at reading myself- hopefully you're not either!

It is ridiculously hot here. The cats look like they're dead. They are dumb and should hang out downstairs. The beer.....well it's getting warm too fast. It's time for a very tall rum and coke. At least the lawn is turning brown and I won't have to mow it....
