I really appreciate all of the good advice.
Now, I realize that I have no clue what is a "sample of teaching."

Did they tell you what type of material to cover for your teaching demo and what the level of class? First year writing etc. ? Have handouts that have to do with the lesson prepared for them. Furthermore, have the "students" wear nametags or get some sheets of cardstock, fold it, and have everyone put their names on it. Search committees love this. Another thing to do is to write on board, the date and a list of things you are going to cover in class.

What Bonny said about having a teaching philosophy is key. Also, ask the members of the committee who are in the English dept. what their goals are for the department. If you didn't do it for the interview, you can ask what classes you would be teaching. Do you know if you are going to meet with the dean of your college?

Make sure you have a 'teaching philosophy'...and that you look at their Department mission and vision.
Sorry...never heard of a teaching sample...
What do they mean by teaching samples? Did they want you to prepare an outline/syllabus with student learning objectives along with measurable outcomes, or do they want you to lecture/conduct an activity or both?

Me too
They have to play cool and most of all, fair. That is actually my preference. There is nothing worse (for me) than going in for a face-to-face interview and having the interviewers tell you all the bad things about the last interviewee(s) or the other interviewers...
When this college offered me the position, I turned it down. I did not want to work in that kind of environment. But I didn't tell them that

That is the worst particularly if you know the interviewees they are talking about. That happened to me a couple of times. Another thing that pisses me off is when they tell you that there is an in-house candidate. They are not supposed to do that. That happened to me and the head of the search committee preceded to tell me about how that person needed the job, how long she had been there etc. Another awkward situation is when committee members hate each other and will talk about each other, and are rude to one another.

Portland Oregon was rated the "Most Patriotic" city in the USA. Seattle came in 4th.
This was in Men's Health Magazine.

I don't think the writer has ever visited either city.

What's "parge?"

Regardless, do it tomorrow.
