I agree that going heavy on the food coloring and creating a dark frosting isn't nearly as gross as making frosting out of lard. Mmmmm...buttercream made with boiled egg whites and sugar, poured into butter as the mixer beats and the butter and sugar smells collide and the ingredients transform into something lovely....

I think stained lips and tongues and fingers is fun.

Blech. I HATE frosting. An exception can be made for a nice, natural flavor like Mel mentioned- but even then, only in moderation. Anything that uses crisco- double blech!

Frosting with real lavender! I would try that. I like it when candy tastes like flowers (like purple Jujubes).

I don't understand the ingredients, but here's the lavender cupcakes that look awesome:

You better never have kids then.

Chicken & Egg, I think. While eating dark frosting is an unlikely requirement for conceiving, I rather suspect that having it available for the urchins is probably essential.

Me neither. I posted that because someone brought in these bright blue and pink cupcakes to the office today.

Also, I don't care if kids or adults like bright/dark frosting, it was just my random thought that I don't like it. I really don't even like frosting much and will often scrape it off and just eat the cake.

The kids can eat whatever gross icing concoction floats their boat at parties- me, I'll pass thanks Not that I have kids, mind you- but if I ever do- I believe this will remain my policy

Me too! Cream cheese and buttercream frosting are exceptions, but I'll usually scrap off some because everything always seems so over-frosted. edit- now a good coffee cake

Calm down, it's ok.... it's just that most kid's cakes are frosted with bright primary colors!
