I used to tape songs off the radio when I was about 10-12 using a tape recorder. I remember more than once my dog ruining the tape with her panting or whining and me getting mad. [/quote]

I used to do that too! Only it was my little sister instead of the dog doing the whining!

South of Freeport and north of Hood. The orchard I lived in was sort of kitty corner across the river from the sugar beet processing plant. I used to stand up on the levee and catch a ride into work at the State Library in downtown Sacramento with a lady who lived in Courtland.

We used to like to go down to LOCKE and prowl around there ~ although the town wasn't very big! Sort of neat that it was originally almost totally inhabitated by Chinese immigrants.

There was so little traffic on the levee road, that on nights with a full moon, we used to like to take a drive with our headlights off! Probably NOT the safest thing to do.

Don't know how old you are ~ were you in Antioch when the boat hit the bridge and knocked out part of the span for months? Only way to cross the river was to go by the cable ferry up river a little bit! The lines were LONG!!!

Quote:
The current bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1978. It measures 1.8 miles (2.9 km). It replaced the original structure that was built in 1926 by Aven Hanford and Oscar Klatt, who went on to build the original span of the Carquinez Bridge. The original lift span bridge was plagued with problems throughout its lifetime. Heavy traffic could cross it at no more than 15 miles per hour (24 km/h), and its narrow shipping canal led to collisions in 1958, 1963 and 1970.
I LOVE the Sacramento delta with all the sloughs, little towns, and back roads.....

Joanie, ten parties- that is a lot! Three was not really THAT bad.

a beehive in the wall!
We *could* have had a private line, but if I recall correctly, it was something like $50 or $60 a month, which was outrageous, considering we were paying $25 for rent! Another choice would have been having a special line run to the house from Freeport ~ which would have been absolutely prohibitive ~ what with telephone poles, wires, etc.....

Yeah! I would call my friend who had a party line in the area where she lived. She lived in a Mexican neighborhood. Occasionally, someone would get on the line and start cussing at us in Spanish because we would talk on the phone for so long. It would get lively sometimes.

I would do that as well. My mom would always bust into my room and ruin the recording. I remember my two cassettes were the Beatles' Abbey Road and Donavan. I wore them out.

We used to have a rotary phone down the basement (where we roller skated and played records!). Perfect place to make prank calls; my brother and I did this a lot. Call people with fake surveys, look up people in the phone book named Michael Jackson and sing or blast MJ songs, ask for Mike Hunt. We cracked ourselves up for hours.

I get why people might like some kind of BBQ pork sandwich. I don't get why it has to be pressed into the shape of ribs?

Mike Hunt!!!! My friend's mom was never home, so we would call up snobby girls from high school, breathe heavily, and hang up. We were not as creative as you and and your brother. She would call cute boys up, disguise her voice, and flirt with them. Thank god there was no caller id or that call back number.

I remember my childhood phone number 415-254-1627
We had a service back then, where you could dial a seven diget number (POPCORN) and a recording would tell you the time. My three older sister use to have me do crank phone calls to it and they would laugh at me of course I didn't know they were laughing at me.........and then there was the time they made me dance naked on top of the Carmengia........those bitches

one of them is pretty darn attractive. *sigh* Big, blonde, manly engineer.... screams testosterone.

He had a shirt with 'fueherwehr' on the back. Must be a brand name? My spelling is likely wrong. Struck me as funny!?

They invited me to the Keg tonight with a couple of the engineers. Why not, free meal!

Your spelling is correct.

Ask him if he is a volunteer fireman. My German really sucks but I remember fueherwehr is a volunteer group of firemen.

Why are firemen so attractive? Some of the firemen from the station that is near where I buy groceries shop there too. All of them are handsome. They drive up in that big ole truck. *sigh*

The firemen who hauled me out of the dog park when I broke my leg were very cute. There for a minute, I forgot how much my leg hurt.
