Yes.....we are very happy being childfree. But, of course there are sometimes regrets we never had kids.

But I think we tend to idealize parenthood if we never did it....like so many other things....that is human nature.
I think we would have both been good parents, and we missed out on a lot of enriching experiences....but we also missed out on a lot of stress, heartbreak, etc.

Ask any parent if they would ever give up not having their kids...of course the answer is no, they cannot conceive of a life without them, once they have them. But that is not the same as being able to imagine if they could have been fulfilled and happy not having any kids at all....it is hard to imagine for some, and some people truly would not have been happy, but kids don't make people happy and fulfilled in life....you either are a happy person or you aren't, kids are beside that basic point...IMO anyway.

anyway... we have enough nieces and nephews having kiddos these days to get our fill whenever we like....two sets of twins within three blocks after we helped our niece move to town yesterday....gahhhh!! No we can't babysit.... again!!!

That's life's brass ring. I know some miserable parents, and some happy parents. I know some miserable rich people and some happy poor people. I choose to be happy and content with how life played out for me. I, like everyone else, have to remind myself of that from time to time.

Well said Riss

How much you love them and how much of a pain in the as they are is two different things.

Surprisingly, as I think about this:

If I had to rate heartache, I would say loosing our first son was less than the breakup of our marriage.

The love I felt for all the boys being born was so deep and so real that it came in a way way way distant second to anything else I had ever felt or ever will feel......I would kill for those little bastards

Thats some deep sheet for a Sunday morning.........life is so frickin interesting, and fast....and cool

I hate napping. I don't like to spend my days off sleeping. I would love to figure out how to do it while on company time though.

The History channel is airing some show on plane crashes. It just covered the PSA crash in a neighborhood in San Diego in the 80's. It gave me goosebumps to watch the footage. I remember it well.

I was riding my bike and it all of a sudden sounded like every siren in the world was sounding off at the same time. I got home and my roommate was watching the news. A jetliner had crashed into a neighborhood about 10 miles from our apartment.

A friend of mine was a young fire fighter and was called in for "recovery" after the fact. The carnage gave him nightmares for years.

About a million years ago when I went to Greece, I could not believe everyone would go and take a nap at the 1:00 Siesta time I actually threw a little fit....about three days later I proclaimed it it be one of the most civilized things man had ever created, a week later I could not live without one

....plus its kind of a built in nooner opportunity.......Riss?

Despite events of the last few weeks, I am still thankful everyday for my kids. But I can also imagine a good life once they are off on their own.

Nice weekend here. Ace and I are trying to keep up with the leaves that are still falling. Mostly, I'm raking and Ace is rolling on her back in the piles of leaves in between episodes of chasing the furry woodland creatures who are trying to invade her yard. Amazing how when I'm trying to get her to move off the couch she is a 14 year old dog with arthritis but when chasing a squirrel suddenly she is Ace the tree-climbing wonder dog.

My old lab does the same thing. If there's water, she's in it. She's a swimming fool. Sticks her head under the water looking for sunken treasures. The rest of the time, she's a tired old dog.

I like naps in the winter....usually on a lazy Sunday like today if we were out late the night before, we will nap/read in the afternoon...or watch football, for the other gender in the house.

I only had about 5 hours of sleep last night....for some reason (getting old I guess??) I am not sleeping great lately...and I can never sleep past 7 or 8 at the latest....grrrr!!!

It can be, yes.

It makes sense to siesta in summer in Greece when it can hit 50C, I am sure! HOT. I remember even in the mid 90s when I first started to go to Mexico, the stores would close for a couple hours after lunch....you never really see that anywhere anymore.

Damn snow. We had to shovel today! We went from beautiful Indian summer to 4" of snow. yuck.
