Christmas cards------ done

pepper jelly made-----done

Merry Mix made-------done (we send a bunch of this to my best bud who is single and living in very very rural Idaho, I think it is all he gets for the holidays, been doing it for 25 years)

Presents bought or made----gotta get on this.

Big snow flakes falling Christmas morning--- on order from Amazon (they really do have everything)

That is it....no fail.

I love pepper jelly to....I have tried to make it a few times but it never comes out right.

I have a fail safe (mostly) pepper jelly recipe. I sometimes make jalapeno (green & somewhat mild) or habenaro (red & hot) or both around the holidays. Red & green Christmas colors." I'll send the recipe to you. Along with all the variations I've tried. I've gifted a LOT of jelly and smoked meat over the years. It's fun for me to make.

Pepper jelly and smoked salmon will be on hand. It's become a traditional offering. Along with the little fish knives that follow. They spent a year with you, 2 years with Syl, and are back with me to bring to the coast. Maybe they should go home with someone else in January, securing a "Gathering of the Traveling Fish Knives" at a new locale.

I'm off today. Well sort of. Dogs to the vet for shots at 10:00, hang lights, go shopping for pass around gifts for wife's x-mass party, pick up cup cakes for wife's x-mas party... there's some other crap on the list too but I forget at the moment. I would have been better off going to work.

Did an 8.5 mile hike on the Grey Wolf river yesterday. Forty miles from my house and I had never even heard of it. Very pristine, very beautiful, very energising.

Also learned a very basic life lesson yesterday.....well the last two days.

Two days ago had to get some financial aid stuff done for one of the twins. The woman at the office was.....lets just say doing the minimum of her job, no help, nothing extra.
Yesterday I discovered that twin two had the same problem with his financial aid stuff. I dreaded going back and doing the same dance again. This time different woman, super helpful, very pleasent, done in 1/10 of the time. Two different people, same job, huge differece.
I know that being good, helpful and nice just comes natural to some people and others(like me) need to work on it.
Just a great example of how the little things can effect others.

Nice. I have been in Oregon for 25 years and have spent alot of time in the wilderness and haven't even dented all the possible destinations.

I don't do the financial aid thing with the kids. Too confusing. Mom is much better at that sorta thing. After about an hour of being told I'm doing it wrong without any offer of assistance, I get frustrated.

So what have you learned? You're a good dad, and you should be nicer to your sous.

I think Mell should go to a Jeni's ice cream shop and try one of these. It sounds like something she'd like.

The New Honeywood Parfait

I love the serving in a Ball jar. Rustic and down home. I saw a magazine recipe for assorted juices (booze and no booze added).

Premix drinks of different colors and flavors in advance and fill canning jars and place them in a metal bucket of ice. Very Americana cool.
