I'm wearing glitter on my lids today! And a pony tail.

I'll likely keep my long hair awhile too....I've been told I'm too old for that, also. But I like it, and so does my man.

I read the last posts and wondered... Do men ever have these kind of discussions on proper age to do this and that? Ever? Between friends? Is there someone bold enough to confess?

Or is this a female thing?

I have to take Don shopping or he'd come home with Ed Hardy type shirts and ripped jeans at 48...so yeah, I think so.

I saw a 60-something guy wearing trendy jeans with a lot of backpocket stitching, and those oversized back pockets, very low? And I thought he looked pretty silly.

but again, that is JMO!

So, is the conclusion that men don't think they're too old to wear such stuff? Only women do that after a certain age?

only SOME women do.

I don't know that men do. My husband just buys what is comfortable, he doesn't think much about trends or rules. I often pick him up more trendy-type things for when we go out, but he'll wear anything. I don't think he'd match his hair/facial hair/underwear or jewelry to match any view on age limits.

Man, guys live in an awesome world, don't they?

Personal Note: often when one assigns attributes to others, it is because they themselves have that attribute. It is transference. Just because I give my opinion on a topic you ask for input on, or disagree with you on any topic, doesn't mean anything you are saying is offending me. I rarely get offended, actually. I just like to speak up when I have a different opinion, I'm just loud like that.

You have a grat body and don't look your age anyway, so I think you should leave the ring, I'm sure it looks great!

The bolded line just sounded like you took it WAY too personally. There is no need to get defensive is all....I could not care less what other women wear, it is a personal thing.

and personally, I go by what articles like this say in terms of general rules for dressing over 40....

Are You Dressing too Young this Christmas? | Fabulous After 40

you know, nothing too short, too tight, too sleazy, too overall inappropriate....I think there are lots of clothes that might be okay for a 20 year old and not -so-okay for a 45 year old.

this is not a really original or ground breaking opinion here....

now THIS is interesting...in light of this discussion...

The sensitive topic of age-appropriate dressing | YouLookFab

I guess this is how I think...

A further complication is that people have very different points of view on the definition of age appropriate. For me it certainly doesn’t mean that women need to become more conservative and less adventurous as they get older. I love, love, love to encourage women in their 40’s and older to dress youthfully, adopt suitable fashion trends and stay looking hip and cool until they’re 100.

No need to look frumpy at 40 and beyond. In fact, it’s probably the time to look your very best, along with the acceptance that you probably shouldn’t wear things as low, tight and short as you used too.

and I struggle with knowing where the line is too....what is 'too young' and 'too short'....I want to be stylish without looking like I am trying to look like a twentysomething.

A GF who is in her late forties recently lost 20 pounds and started to wear her daughters distressed skinny jeans and other things that were too young....it's a bit strange looking but whatever! but people WILL make fun of her....if she is okay with that, again, great....

Well, like you always point out, I had a sarcasm emoticon after so I guess I thought it was clear I was joking.

ETA: I'm not one to read articles to figure out how to dress. I don't care what some "fashion guru" has to say about how I should dress, nor do I really care too much what catty women have to say about it, because if someone is that concerned with how other people dress, they have more issues that I do in my skin-tight dress and plunging neckline.

Oh hell no, I think most men with good fashion sense will realize what is age appropriate. My husband just lacks that. lol

all men should take fashion tips from George Clooney, who ALWAYS looks handsome and hot as hell, and NEVER age inappropriate that I have ever seen.

and Roni and his socks and sandals, um, faux pas extraordinaire, there.

I've always been envious about that

I guess I was mostly wondering about the term age appropriate. Do we (women, that is) just make our own lives harder by giving it too much thought?

I HAVE one, already....I am not thinking of getting one for the first time at 41!

Have had it since I was 25. (First trip to Mexico...the ex hubby got a tat of a lizard curled in a sun. I am sure he regrets that one!)

I decided it was time to take it out....IMO (bold font!) I am a bit long in the tooth for it now.

I suppose what constitutes 'too old' for any fashion trend will vary.

I do think some women look a little silly when they dress 'too young'....if you are over 40 and shopping at Forever 21, some of the items are simply not appropriate anymore, and to me they make the woman look silly or desperate more than fashionable or trendy....I am sure we ALL know women who do this! I love to be fashionable but age-appropriate as well.

But it's no biggie. Everyone has to decide for themselves what they feel is appropriate for them.

I got a really cute jacket at Forever 21 last season and I'm 39. No one even stopped me at the check out.

If there is one thing I have learned in life, it's if people are getting overly offended at my opinions, it is their issue, not mine. If I feel I am too old for a belly ring, then can I feel that?

It's the random thread, it was just a random thought. Wear what you like! Really.

I am so glad I am not a chick.

QOTD:

How come as we get older we get weirder?
Do you ever just drop in on friends anymore?
Do they on you?
Is it weird?
