that would be "bear"
i agree, 70's rock was hard to beat
and i love to listen to 50's and 60's

you probably never had a little transistor radio, or maybe you did
for me it was mostly baseball games, but also good old rock and roll

A friend pointed out some V-day funniness, so I thought I'd share.

Twitter trend of "#rejectedcandyhearts"

You don't need a twitter account to read them.

My favorite so far:

Women always say that giving birth is way more painful than getting kicked in the nuts. Here is proof that they are wrong.
A year or so after giving birth a woman will often say, "I think it would be nice to have another child".

You never hear a guy say, " I think I would like another kick in the nuts".

Case closed.

My son is playing his first genuine gig this weekend on Commercial Drive, and I'm not allowed to go. His band also has new logo.... but before I post it (and it may get deleted) I will explain....

It is a punk rock band. Punk culture ideologies are concerned with individual freedom and anti-establishment views. Viewpoints held by my son and his friends include non-conformity and not putting yourself above anyone else, as well as anti-militarism, anti-capitalism, anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-homophobia, environmentalism, veganism and animal rights.

The band has a very edgy name that ties into that theme. It is a play-on-words of the word:

Sophisticate: a person with the outlook, experience, and manners thought to be typical of big city dwellers <sophisticates laughing at people they thought of as hicks>

I'm so proud. (Obviously this is hard to brag about..hahah )

Pervy? No. Us asking you to post bikini pics is not pervy. Us asking each other to post bikini pics would be a little uncomfortable.

Ha, my son played in a punk band when he got out of high school for a few years. Went to see them at some very um... questionable venues But we always supported them. He eventually grew out of it, but he still plays music with the same guys from the band, however their sound has evolved into something different.

Really depends on the make up of the band, imo. If this is a bunch of guys, then none of them belong to the community who has the---let's call it linguistic license---to appropriate the word cunt as a positive (or clever or provocative or artistic or deliberately subversive, etc.) part of the band name.

edit: I'm not pointing this out because I am offended; I just think it brings up an interesting point about the "rules" of language appropriation. Also, I don't know the make up of the band. Maybe they have a rockin punk girl on the lead guitar.

I think that it's awesome that he's in a band and enjoying himself.
I think that the logo is pretty freaking cool.

The name, I can't stand. I can't freaking stand the "c" word.

Just my opinion, of course.

And my opinion too! I hate the name. I wish it could be something else....but alas, they are teenaged boys living on the edge. Ha!

They are using it in this definition:

b. Used as a disparaging term for a person one dislikes or finds extremely disagreeable.

Being that anti-sexism is a part of what they stand for, they wouldn't be using it in a knowingly disparaging way against women.

I look forward to him growing out of it! He really is a great kid, he gets good grades, he doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs, vandalize, he's kind to everyone...much like all his Punk friends. They get a bad rap for how they dress, etc. and because the are often the ones speaking out against what they see as wrong....but ultimately they are GOOD humans, it's just too bad not everyone can see that, or see past the pink mohawk.
