Riu Palace Mexico

We just booked Riu Palace Mexico for next week..any info, advice, tips or comments will be greatly appreciated. We stayed at Sandos Playacar in May and we are going to Secrets Maroma in Mar 09. We may be newbies to Playa but after our 1st trip we fell in love with it.

Been there the last 5 years and returning again for weeks 10 and 11 Nov 30. We love the place and the people. Don't get hung up on having to do all the specialty restaurants, do the dinner buffet your first night and you'll understand why. We'll generally do 3 specialties over our 14 nights.
Do talk to and get to know the staff from Management down. They are there to ensure you enjoy your stay. Also get to know the Animacion Team and they'll be dancing with you in the courtyard in the evening.
Go for a walk south along the beach past the Sandos, visit the other Rius and have breakfast or lunch in them just to see how they compare. A friend who just returned from the Riu Yucatan said you can now walk the beach to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya and do that one day. Try the pools at the RPRM but be sure to take your RPM beach towel with you because you can't exchange your towel card at the other Rius.
Have fun!

Thanks avagirl. It's been quite a while since I've been on this board and forgot I had the link in my signature. Many of our friends keep saying why do you keep going back to the same place? Try somewhere else. I know there are probably newer better resort rooms for about the same $ but we just like the people and the way we're treated there.

That's awesome to hear!

I loved the RPM when the wife and I walked through it. Speaking of RIU's where is Rainbow?

Ditto on JoBob's comment's about the resort. We're heading back for our 5th stay at RPM for 14 nights and can't say enough about the staff and how welcome they may your feel!
We've talked about trying other places as well but we keep going back because we always have such a good time there...sometimes too much of a good time but that's a story for a different thread!
In additon to also enjoying the food at the buffet make sure you go into PDC at least once...great restaurants and bars there! We always have a blast in town. Not sure were to go just ask Manuel the doorman...he's the best and always remembers us by name and greets us with a hug and "Welcome Home".
Funny you mentioned Rainbow..we met up with her and her husband over at the Yucatan last year for a "Fiesta" (term from that "other message board").

Thanks for all your input. We are really getting excited....5 days to go. We have stayed at a Riu before in Aruba and loved the hotel, the food and service. We were in PDC in May and did go to town a couple of times. We will definitely check out 5th Avenue again.

We will be at Riu Palace next Monday the 11th.
