Help! Traveling Solo and first time to PDC
Hi, I was so happy to find this forum.
I am planning a trip to PDC in December 2003 (3rd -9th). I was looking at all inclusives but it galls me to pay a "single supplement" when the whole point of this trip is to enjoy myself alone and be independent and not to be penalized for wanting to travel alone!! I am interested in suggestions for hotels in PDC that are clean, safe and friendly to solo travellers. I have read reviews on Frommers about Club Bananas which is a small AI in downtown PDC that does have reasonable rates of about $75 per night based on single occupancy. If I went this route I wouldn't have to worry about eating alone the whole time or finding restaurants by myself. But I am also open to hotels that may provide breakfast so I can venture downtown for lunch and dinner. Any suggestions are welcome, especially from singles who have travelled there. I am 32 and this would be the first vacation I took by myself, for myself and I really want it to be special. My budget is about $1200-$1500 total, I've found flights for around $450 from Ohio to Cancun but am also worried about safe shuttle from airport to hotel and back! Thank you in advance for your help. Traci |

You are on the best web-site to answer all of your questions
There is a spot right on this site where you can get the shuttle service to and from the airport. Use the "search" function to find out more needed info.

Hi and welcome to the forum! First thing to do is to stop worrying. Playa is a perfect place to go on a solo vacation, and you'll have a great time. I suggest going for one of the charming and personal posadas, for example Freud or La Rana Cansada. They both have bars where it's easy to meet people, and supernice people working there. If you contact them from this site, and book more than 4 nights, you get a free Playa Deal Card. I say, definitely don't go with AI but go restaurant and bar hopping and you'll be amazed how nice it is and how easy and fun it is to strike up a conversation with people.

I vacationed alone in PdC in late May. I used the shuttle service through this site and it is excellent. I stayed at the Hotel Playa Maya which is on the beach and centrally located to shops, restaurants, bars, etc. I highly recommend this hotel to women travelling alone; the staff is wonderful! Plus, if you make your hotel arrangements through this site you will receive the Playa Deal Card which entitles you to discounts with participating bars, restaurants, shops, tours, etc. I used my Card quite a bit and was very pleased with how much money I saved. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
