single parent immigration requirement
im leaving on tuesday with my 13 year old son.
Does anyone know about the regulation of having a notorized permission from other parent to enter and leave mexico? I have sole custody so not sure? Anyone going with teens from 14- 26 to Grand Palladium and PDC. We need some buddies. |

Thanks for finding out Claudia. We will be at Sandos Caracol from Aug 16-23. My son is 12 and dtr is 17 (18th b-day while we are in Playa!). I too have custody and I had forgotten about the notarized letter. Do you have a web address or name of someone if this is questioned on arrival?

Caudia- Recommend you double-check what you heard...either by calling airport or searching here more.
I traveled to Mexico from US alone w/my son, and I'm pretty sure I needed a notary letter -- in addition to his passport -- it TO GET ON THE PLANE in US! |

Caudia, My friend and I traveled from the US with her 12 y/o daughter in January 2008 and all she needed was a passport. I searched on the airlines site and printed out their regulations stating that was all she needed just in case. Not sure if different airlines could have different policies or it could be different if your not from US. Have a great time!!
EDIT: oh, duh... I just saw that you said you already checked the consulate and got your answer. I'm sure the consulate will be relieved that I am backing them up

OK, sorry, but I have to ask: did you mean to make your username "Claudia" (as some here have already referred to you and as I thought your name was at first, too), or did it intentionally come out without the 'l' (and if so, what's the story behind "Caudia")?
Feel free not to answer if you don't want to. Just had to ask. ![]() Steve |

thanks Ryberg
my user name is CAUDIA that little L slips in there Just to repeat : a childs valid passport is enough for "lone" parent to enter Mexico the regulation has changed i dont know when but the consulate sent me their regulations to print out and take with me just in case.I think the problem is that lots of americans travel without passports for their kids. To get a passport you need permission of both parents so child having a passport indicates permission of second parent anyway. Problem is if child does not have his own passport. |

EVERYONE needs a passport, regardless of age. Even a month old baby needs one!
There has been much talk about having a notorized form when parents travel with a child sans the other parent, or when people take other people's kids on vacation. You need it, you don't need it...etc. Bottom line, some ticket agents still do ask for that letter, and if you don't have it - while you may get through - it's a huge hassle. I tell all my clients to bring the notorized letter JUST IN CASE. I even e mail them the form so they can print it out and have it signed. If no one asks for it, great. But if they do, you have it. Caudia- I'd say 2006, USA 3000 out of Baltimore. Airport desk agent asked for to see it... I had it, so everything went fine... (btw, he had his own passport)
Since Shammy the travel expert has commented, I'd go with what she says! |
