The Shangri La has been bought, and will be closing in April 2009. I'd read so much about it in this forum, that I had to go see it before it was gone. It really will be a shame to see it go. It's a beautiful property.

Yeah Debbie, Yucatanned is right. I am just not sure we will be able to get back again by april. We are very sad and so are our friends that went last spring break on our advice and loved it. We had hoped to be able to make a trip with them but they can't come with us in December.
I keep dreaming and hoping that whoever bought it will change their mind, but it sounds like a done deal. Boo hoo. Shangri-La is such a special place.

DAY FIVE: After breakfast, we walked north along the beach, past the last resort (Coco Beach?) and found a completely desserted stretch of beach. There was construction going on, but it wasn't loud, and it was set far back away from the beach. The waves were small and the scenery was awesome. We bobbed in the water and swam for a couple of hours. Right before we headed back, we saw a sting ray coasting the surf line. It was about 18" around. Cool! Of course, I'd left my camera in the room.

We spent the day chilling on the beach in front of the Shangri La. We ate lunch there, too, for the first time. The chicken enchiladas were really good.

(This is me stressing out about all of the things that I'm missing back at the office -- NOT!)

For dinner, we decided to go back to the Casa de la Mediterranea. David had the five-cheese penne, and I had the shrimp fettucini with tomato sauce. We also split a Caesar salad. It was all good. Evidently, I'm not the only one who thought it was a very romantic restaurant. Halfway through dinner, amid our usual joking banter back and fourth, David asked me to marry him!!!!!! (I said yes! ) I had too many butterflies in my stomach to eat dessert after that. (No camera with me then, either, dammit!)
We walked around Quinta for a while, then headed back to the beach to sit, watch the waves, and enjoy each other's company.
OMG! I'm engaged!!!!!

I really liked the restaurant the first time I went there. It's definitely my all-time favorite, now.
