I know that those drugs are illegal OTC, but someone should tell that to the pharmacies that sell them. Outside of Playa, Ambien and Xanax are harder to buy. I think there is a difference between American and Mexican culture in terms of drug use, but that's changing with the new generation of Mexican youth, IMHO. I don't have statisitcs, but I'm afraid Mexican youth are starting to follow the path of their American peers in terms of recreational drug use.Quote:

a couple of Mexico trips ago I had a terrible cough and couldn't sleep at night
I went to the drugstore to get some ASA with codeine or cough syrup with codeine, something - so that I could get some rest not one pharmacy would give it to me. Narcotics are strictly controlled, they all said.I went to 4 different farmacias (this was in Oaxaca) yet I can get Tyleonol with codeine from the pharmacist, just by asking, here in Canada.

I'm not aware of any pharmacies that dole out Oxycontin, either in the U.S. or Mexico, without a prescription. In the U.S., I'm sure it's overprescribed and I'm sure it's abused. As far as what you can and can't buy under the counter in Playa, don't take my word for it, believe what you want. I should've never brought it up.

We just got back from Playa and went downtown on Monday. Hubby has a goatee and is always asked if he wants drugs but I have never been asked until this trip. We were even told we would get free joints with a purchase from his store. I was shocked and made a comment to the vendor I did do drugs and wouldnt be buying from him. Sheesh....dont they know that this offends some people. Its not like im a teenager or in my twenties. I also went into a shop and didnt buy anything after the worker told me he had what I was looking for and didnt and he then said real ugly "Thanks for nothing". We also noticed more police on 4 wheelers on the beach and there were people being pulled over on the main highway.

I was offered both Xanax and Valium at a Farmacia on 5th last year. Both are supposed to require prescriptions here. I went in to buy something else, and the pharmacist winked at me at said, "Are you sure you don't want some of these?". "Xanax" and "Valium" were written on a piece of paper on the counter. I can't remember which one it was - one of the pharmacies in central Playa around Calle 12.
As to the other drugs - I had never been offered them until last year too. Then as I was walking down 5th, guys working in stores would yell out at me, "I have something better for you to smoke", that kind of thing. I have seen drugs of all kinds sold pretty openly in some of the bars here. On the flip side, friends of mine have been searched by the police just because they were out walking late at night. So for those who want to partake - easy to find, but still best to be very careful. |

I would love to know too although I would probably be too afraid to make the purchase. What if it was a sting? Don't even know if they do that there.
My anxiety makes me where I can't get a deep breath and I feel like I am suffocating. Doctor perscribed Lexapro. I have to take it frequently to get the anxiety under control and I hate it. He use to perscribe Xanax, but wouldn't do it last time and I hate to have to make an appointment and demand it. I would only need it a few times a month if that and I do go months and months without anxiety at all. ![]() |

James transposting as Daddy B: just a sales ploy to get you in the shop. Probably the same guys who yell "hey, you look like a rock star" at the biggest geeks they see.
