Just bought a place in Playa
Hello folks, I just sent my deposit for a little townhouse in Playa. I have been there numerous times and thought it would be nice to own a place there. There is alot to learn about homeownership in Mexico and I will be stressed for the next couple of months. I'm leaving to furnish the humble casa on the 20th of August. I'll send pictures. This will be a working vacation so I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express, if anyone has stayed there I would appreciate a little info. My casa is on the non-beach side of 307 and some really good buys can be had with a little searching. I'm excited and anxious, wish me luck. Adios.

Congratulations!!!!! We're looking at doing something similar. I'm so envious of you! Please keep up with the details on the forum as I'm very curious to see how things go for you.

Buying a place in Playa
Thanks to the reader for encouraging me to write about my purchase. (I dont need much encouragement). First off I have very little pride, humility, or for that matter writing ability, so I will delve into detail.
I am a semi-retired police officer of meager means. Myself, wife and 3 kids have been to PDC numerous times and love the area. We started in earnest looking for property nearly one year ago. As you may or may not know financing property in Mexico is hard to do. This limited our ability to purchase property on the beach. Last time we were in Playa (May 2008) we rented a car and traveled to the West of 307 and started looking at all the development there. (there's plenty). After looking at numerous developments we ran across a developement named "Playa Azul" it looked very nice. The houses are townhouse designed, upstairs and downstairs, with 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The complex has a pool, bike trail, and jogging track, near the Univerisity of the Mayan Riviera, a nice area. I expected the price to be out of my modest range, however, I was pleasantly surprised when the asking price was 680,000 pesos. Approx. 65,000 usd Not knowing anything about buying property in Mexico I set out to find a Mexican Abagado (lawyer). More to come.........I'm semi-retired (emphasis on semi) have to go to work. |

Prior to realizing I needed an attorney, I was given a contract, all in spanish. It is important to note I can count to 3 and say good morning...all in spanish, however I realized I needed some assistance in the process.
My wife and I drove to 5th Avenue and popped into the first real estate office that was open. They were extremely nice and referred me to Alfonso a bi-lingual real estate attorney. I took the contract to Alfonso and he told me he would take care of everything for 2300 dollars. By now had I said no, my wife would have divorced me and final days in Playa would of been hell. She had fallen in love with the little house and to be honest so had I. With my wallet 2300 bucks lighter and 2 days to go on my vacation, Alfonso assured me everything would be ok. This was May 27th. Fast forward to August 12th. (more later) |
