Specific Question about Grand Coco Bay

Are there always boats on the beach of this resort? Seems like the pictures I found here somewhere showed a bunch of fishing boats docked on the beach area.

Yes, they're always tied up out front, but some/most/all are usually gone during the day.

We were in that area for two weeks and we noticed that there seemed to be more boats anchored in front of GCB than we've seen in the past. And they weren't gone during the day. I'm sure a few went out, but there were always plenty there.

Deb and I have stayed there twice in the past and found the boats to actually be...relaxing to look at They are far enough away from the swimming area that they don't block your view of anything. Now.........if you HATE boats....then you might wanna re-consider another AI to stay at
We enjoyed our stay there both times !

And since the swimming area is roped off (a large area too), the boats certainly aren't a danger to anyone. During the week that David and I stayed there (July 2006), I don't recall seeing any of the boats come or go during the times we were in the water, so I'm guessing they leave early and come back late?? Or... perhaps I'm just not so observant of that type of thing.

And I agree with the Duck.... I thought the boats were quite nice to look at. They weren't an eyesore whatsoever. I think the boats that are docked at the shoreline (not the ones at Grand Coco Bay) are more of a pain, namely due to their ropelines tied up onto the beach which are tooooo easy to trip over. Is there anyone who HASN'T come home with a little rope burn on their shin after negotiating those jumpy lines?

I think I have pretty much decided on this resort. If anyone remembers, we were supposed to be staying in a beach front Villa in Cozumel - but the inviter flaked out on us - which is fine with me.

Sounds like the beach and the location are right for me. If anyone has a more recent experience and can share any details that would be great. Seems all the TRs I found are more than a year and two years old.

Didn't SOMEONE here stay at GCB in JUNE?

James A. stayed at GCB for two weeks. Maybe he'll chime in?

Yes...that's who I was referring to. Last I heard he was talking to a ghost writer! LOL

cherrytat- there are a couple of reviews on Trip Advisor fron earlier this month that were pretty good. I should have just stopped there.

Now I'm second guessing myself again! Ugh. I'm not booked yet and will probably still go GCB....I wouldn't really care if it was just me going alone, but I don't want my husband to be disappointed. We might also have another couple with us and it will be there first time to Mexico.

Bottom line, Grand Coco Bay is considered a "budget" resort. There's nothing fancy about it, no bells and whistles. As long as you know that going in, you won't be disappointed. But if you're looking for something a little more "plush", this isn't the place. Nice beach, yes. Close to town, yes. But for the money, there may be other choices in Playacar that would be a bit more upscale - IF that's what you're looking for.

Yea....I know ...budget doesn't bother me and I've told my husband that. My thing is, I want to eat and drink IN PDC quite a bit on this trip. I just priced out some other resorts on Funjet and for just $200-$300 more dollars we could stay at Iberostar T/C or Riu PM...but in my mind that's alot of shrimp tacos!

I also want to venture out more on this trip than we have in the past. I think if we planned to just stay at the resort and do resort stuff I would go more plush...I'm mainly worried that my husband will be disappointed and if the other couple goes with us then I want them to enjoy themselves too.

Edited by me!
