4 Year Camping Trip.
Went on a 4 year camping trip, courtious of Uncle Sam. Spent 3 years in Panama and 1 year in Honduras. Good times, Good times!
![]() Hot when is was hot , wet when is was hot, hot when is was wet. Even got cold a few times. Got tossed outta bed by an earthquake. I swam in the Atlantic ocean (carib) and the Pacific ocean in the same day, and I drove my car.

Not really a true trip report as I was there with the US Army. 3 years in Panama and about a year in Honduras, lots of adventures. Traveled in Honduras alot saw pretty much all of the country. Really cool. Pretty much confined to the "Canal Zone" in Panama, but it was great. Would love to go back to Panama and explore more.

So, tomkat, are you back in the U.S. now? Still in the military? Given the alternatives, it seems to me that four years in Panama and Honduras is an OK military assignment. My niece is in Oklahoma right now, preparing to ship out to Afghanistan in January. Prolly not as good as Panama...

Oh yea, way back. It was the 80's when I was down there. Noriega, Contras, Sandanistas, back in dem days. And your right with what our
Brave Troops are faced with currently, Panama was excellent duty. I'll take the Jungle over Desert or Cold Ass Mountains any day.

A couple cool places (at the time) were Puerto Cortes and Tela. Not to far from the Guatemala border. Was dispatched to P.C. upon my arrival to Hondo to head up a security mission and they day we rolled in we set up all our gear and equipment. We were actually at the Shipping Port awaiting Merchant Marines. Made a beer run and was "sittin on the dock of the bay" having a pop and a whale rolled up like 10-15 feet in front of me. Gave me goose bumps, something so simple so freakin awesome! Further south down the coast is a town Puerto Cortes, another awesome costal town. Spent a week there. Had a great time. |
